Nintendo Starts Budget Wii Game Line in Japan

Instead of sales numbers, Nintendo's budget line will be determined by player feedback.

Nintendo recently announced that a line of budget games would be available soon for Wii. The line of Wii games will be called Minna no Osusume Selection which translates to Everyone's Recommendation Selection.

In order to qualify for a budget re-release, the game has to score a bronze, silver, gold, or platinum rating based on user feedback on the Nintendo Channel.

The initial budget lineup will be released on February 25 and will be available for ¥2,800 (~$30) each.

The following titles will be available:

  • 428 (Sega)
  • Muramasa Demon Blade (Marvelous)
  • Arc Rise Fantasia (Marvelous)
  • Family Ski World Ski & Snowboard (Namco Bandai)
  • One Piece Unlimited Cruise Episode 1 (Namco Bandai)
  • Tales of Symphonia: Ratatoskr no Kishi (Namco Bandai)
  • Dragon Ball Z Sparking! Meteor (Namco Bandai)

Nintendo has not specified if their own titles will be included in the budget lineup nor have they revealed if and/or when more titles will be made available.

Well this is certainly an interesting way to form a budget lineup, since typically they are based on sales. This can be a good thing since it can give critically acclaimed games that didn't sell well another shot.
