Perfect Dark XBLA to Be Updated With Legacy and Southpaw Controls

Nick can finally end his strike.

Rare announced today via Twitter that Perfect Dark XBLA will be patched in the latter half of April.

Most prominently, the patch will bring both Legacy and Southpaw controls, both omitted from the retail release. In addition, players will have the added ability to swap triggers, and modify sensitivity with a slider. Finally, the patch will offer some bug fixes in the way of fixed achievements.

Currently Rare has not specified anything else that the patch will encompass.

I always find it frustrating when games aren't released without the ability for strong control customization, or when they have tiny fonts built for large TV screens, but leave them virtually unplayable for people with anything slightly smaller than 40".

Truthfully, it surprises me that these problem continues to occur, considering the overall negative reaction the decisions net. I'd like to see more studios who've made these decisions in the past come out and make a commitment to allow more custom control and custom-sized fonts, even though fonts weren't Rare's problem this time around.

I still don't understand why every game released today doesn't have fully customizable controls. Is it really that difficult of a feature to implement?

It was 8 years ago that Metroid Prime 4 was originally announced and its development was more than a little turbulent. Initially developed by Bandai Namco, it was later scrapped completely and development was shifted back to Retro Studios to start the project over. In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
