Natal to Cost $149.99?

Sources close to Edge reveal the price point for Natal and a console bundle

Recently, a trusted source to Edge has revealed Microsoft's launch plans for their latest peripheral, Natal.

According to the source, the peripheral will retail for $149.99. There will also be a console bundle available that includes Natal and an Xbox 360 Arcade system for $299.99. Purportedly, Microsoft is targeting a worldwide launch on October 26, however the date is subject to change. The source also revealed that Natal isn't the final name for the peripheral, and the final name will be formally announced during E3.

Unsurprisingly, Microsoft is targeting families and the mass market for the peripheral and its launch titles. The source concluded that Microsoft is hoping to sell millions of the peripheral.

If Microsoft is really trying to target the mass market, then those are terrible prices. I would never spend $150 on a camera peripheral.

This would be a monumental mistake. They need to target a sub-$100 price point if they expect to reach the mass market.

I'm having trouble believing this price. I know the leak is supposed to be credible, but I'm not sure it could be successful.

To be fair, it is less than the cost of two new Wii Balance Boards, at least. I'd imagine Natal will have packed-in software, too, to help balance things out.

Jason, considering that at one point Microsoft charged $100 dollars for a A,B,G standard Wi-Fi adapter and for a 20GB Hard Drive, I wouldn't be shocked if Natal or Wave (the rumored final Natal name) is priced at $150. Microsoft is absolutely atrocious with peripheral pricing.

Sure, but those are all considered "unnecessary." The Xbox 360, itself, has been very competitive in price. Considering hard drives and Wi-Fi adapters aren't geared toward attracted people to the console in the same way Xbox Live and Natal are, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a different pricing scheme than what most believe after this leak occurred.

Either that, or Microsoft has some serious software to back Natal up with up their sleeves.

How is a hard drive unnecessary?!?! Especially in this generation.
