The latest hockey game from EA will feature a peripheral and the likeness of Wayne Gretzky.
While not officially announced, the QMI Agency has revealed that EA will announce NHL Slapshot, a Wii exclusive hockey game soon.
The game will feature the likeness of the famous retired hockey played Wayne Gretzky and will be bundled with a 21 inch hockey stick peripheral which houses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. According to Joe Nickolls, the game's producer, the hockey stick is the first third-party peripheral that Nintendo has approved to be included in a game. The producer has also claimed that the peripheral is more accurate than a Wii Remote, “because you’re getting two signals sent to the Wii, it triangulates the signal. So it basically gives you more accuracy.” Due to this claim, Nickolls has confirmed that Wii MotionPlus will not be supported as it is not needed.
The game will include a PeeWees to Pros mode where you play as a 12 year old hockey player that eventually advances through different leagues until you ultimately reach the Pro league. While you can create your own character, you can play as 12 year old versions of professional hockey players, including Wayne Gretzky himself.
NHL Slapshot will be released on September 7 alongside NHL '11 for the PS3 and 360.
