White Knight Chronicles 2 Requires Clear Data From First Title

Players who didn't beat the first game will be forced to play the original from the very beginning before playing the sequel.

In a recent interview, Toshiyuki Kusuda the director of the White Knight Chronicles series has revealed that as a prerequisite to play White Knight Chronicles 2, players must have a clear data from the original White Knight Chronicles.

If you don't have have the clear data, the game will force you to play the original White Knight Chronicles from the beginning. Both White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2 are included in the White Knight Chronicles 2 disc. If you have a clear data file, you will be given an option to play from the very beginning of the original title, or to continue from the end of the first game. If you chose, to play from the very beginning of the first title, you will retain all your items however, your character will revert to level 1.

Regarding online play, the original title in the White Knight Chronicles 2 disc will not be compatible with the version that is already released. This is due to the fact that the original title in the White Knight Chronicles 2 disc features enhancements that are found in the sequel. However, since the social networking components are unchanged, players from both versions of the original White Knight Chronicles can still send messages and be on the same friends list.

That is very interesting how Level 5 is handling the sequel, to actually force people to beat the original as a pre-requisite in order just to play the sequel. It's nice that they are including the original WKC in the WKC2 disc with the enhancements found in the sequel.

I think how they are handling the online component of both versions of the original WKC is very odd. The fact that both versions of the original game can still communicate with each other via messaging while not being able to play with each other doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
