3D Coming to PlayStation 3

A recent press briefing and Famitsu provide further details.

Earlier today at a Sony briefing in Japan, CEO Kaz Hirai highlighted the five advantages of owning a PS3, one of which was 3D technology.

Utilizing 3D technology is nothing new for Sony. This past E3 they showcased a playable 3D version of WipEout that required players to wear glasses to create the effect.

In addition to the briefing, Famitsu revealed that it's Sony's goal to make the PS3 completely compatible with 3D televisions at some point in 2010.

According to Sony, a simple firmware update would bring the 3D compatibility to the system. It's currently unknown at what point the technology will be integrated next year or what games might support the functionality.
