If games can access the camera, it could have some usefulness.
3DS Hands On Preview
3D picture taking? Mind = blown.
With my last Hands On article for the 3DS, I only had the opportunity to see a few dioramas on the system and play around with the buttons. This time I had the opportunity to take a few pictures.

There's not too much to say about it, because honestly, it just works. Not only that, but it works exactly as I imagined it.
In the booth, the booth girl working the display allowed me to take a picture of her in order to test the camera. She posed for the picture by holding one arm closer to the camera and the other all the way back behind her. After the picture was taken, I was instantly able to view it, and as you might expect, I was able to see the booth girl's front arm close to me, and the other much further away.

Next she took a picture of me (and I broke the 3DS... not really) and again, the function worked perfectly. There I was, in stunning 3D, which is quite amazing.
I'm not sure if there is any practicality to the picture taking ability, regardless it was very interesting to see, and quite clearly the future of digital still photography.
