Okay, mistakes were made.
You know, in hindsight, it was probably a poor idea to have the bombastic Mike Fallek guest on this episode of Nerds Without Pants, considering we were doing a listener AMA. Oh well, just consider this a learning experience. And even though this is the LONGEST EPISODE OF NWP EVER in a year where we’ve already broken the record twice this year it’s also a banger. Enjoy!
It’s all downhill from here.
In 1996, UEP Systems released Cool Boarders on the PlayStation. It was one of the few pioneers of snowboarding games on home consoles. The popularity of extreme sports was steadily gaining momentum in the United States, as were releases of snowboarding titles from other game developers. So it was only natural that UEP Systems would follow up in 1997 with their sequel, Cool Boarders 2.
Cute but Deadly
After seeing the incredible success of Konami's shoot-'em-up Gradius, Sega sought to create an arcade game that could rival it. So in 1986, game designer Yoji Ishii (Flicky, Outrun, NiGHTS) came up with a concept that combined the whimsical sensibilities of Twinbee with a giddy samba-esque soundtrack to create Fantasy Zone. As a lighthearted take on side-scrolling shooters that later cemented the "cute-’em-up" subgenre.
Or: Burning Questions with Justin Hamm
Welcome to a very special Nerds Without Pants! After two years of Julian CONSTANTLY singing the praises of the No One Can Know About This podcast we are joined by the hosts of that very show: Jeff and Ryan! It’s a short but sweet visit with these awesome dudes, and then Julian and Justin talk about a bunch of fun stuff after the break. Enjoy!
Is this Yaoi? This looks like Yaoi...
Welcome to a special Nerds Without Pants…thing? Ok, I’ll be honest. This is being written by Julian, but I have no earthly idea what you’re in store for here. Justin played another bad game, I think? And he narrated it? This is the first episode of NWP that I’m not involved with, and it feels…really wrong, actually.
Wait, the generation is ending already?!
It’s the final Nerds Without Pants of the year, and that means it’s time to take a look back at 2019, a look back at the 8th generation, and a look forward to the 9th generation. It’s a short episode that quickly balloons into a normal sized episode for…reasons!
Holy crap, it's Ryan Scott!
Welcome to the last episode of Nerds Without Pants for 2018! It’s been a heck of a year, and we’re closing things out with our biggest guest to date: none other than Ryan Scott of The Geekbox and The Comedy Button! So strap in, because it’s time for our annual breakdown of the video game industry that we like to call the State of the Generation podcast.
Verily, thou musteth playeth Octopathen Travelereth.
Hey, we’re back right away, so I guess the hiatus is really over. Huzzah! On this episode of Nerds Without Pants, it’s another all Consumption Junction edition with Julian and Patrick. But tune in next time for the return of Stage Select, as well as a special guest!
Or: The Brotherhood of the Vanishing Pants
The Nerds Without Pants are back with an episode full of quick time events, animated blood and gore, and tales of medical woe. We won’t be back for a little bit in our standard format, but fear not, as Julian has a special in the works to tide you lovely people over until we’re back. Enjoy!
