Well, it's that time again-- the time that comes around every 4 years when hundreds of athletes from around the world compete in some of the most physically demanding competitions ever. Each athlete is highly skilled in their discipline of sport, but only the best get the gold. Of course, I'm talking about the 2016 Summer Olympics taking place in Rio de Janeiro today. With this exciting occasion just hours away, now is as good a time as any to take a look at Track & Field from Konami.

London 2012 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games Review

The Olympic Games - minus the athletes you care about and the skill.

The Olympics has been a tradition around the world for generations. This year, the Olympics were held in London, England where it earned the achievement of being the most viewed Olympics of all-time. The idea of being able to compete against other athletes from around the world to determine the best of each sport has been a driving force for many athletes their entire life. Residents of those countries cheer on their representative athletes in hopes that they finish with the most medals and reign supreme. This year, Sega had the honor of virtually representing these games as London '12, giving players a chance to compete for their country against friends and online users alike in a variety of games and events. Unfortunately, rapid button-pressing with a lack of emphasis on skill isn't representative of this notable and important worldwide sporting event.

Not content to release a "dull and outright boring" 2012 Olympics mini-game collection just for the Wii, Sega was kind enough to spread its time-tested mediocrity to the 3DS.

Sega Developing 2012 Olympics Game

No, not the Mario & Sonic game.

Fans of the Olympic Games now have a video game to look forward to. Or not. Either way, Sega has announced London 2012 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games. Unlike the recently released Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, this will be a more conventional title and will not feature any Yoshis, Hedgehogs, Koopas or Echidnas.
