Sony Stays the Course

Not much new at E3 2017, but maybe we didn't need it.

Let’s face it: while Microsoft has plenty of lost ground to make up for, Sony has been sitting pretty since the beginning of the 8th console generation. Even with the waves being made by the Nintendo Switch, there probably isn’t much that Sony needs to do to keep their position in the market secure. Microsoft Leans Heavy on Games at E3 2016

Also, a lot of new hardware announcements.

I think it’s safe to say that the unveiling of the Xbox One a few years ago was one of the most tone-deaf, poorly received debuts of a video game console since, well, Sony commented that people would get a second job to afford their $599 PlayStation 3 all those years ago. Since then, Microsoft has been doing everything in its power to right those wrongs and bring their console up to the user base that the PS4 currently enjoys. This E3 continues that trend and, while there were very few surprises, the Microsoft press conference put the emphasis squarely on exclusive games and community.

That Dragon, Cancer Review

Numinous Games presents us with a gut-wrenching experience that elevates the interactive medium.

"That Dragon, Cancer," is a game about hope -- its presence, and its absence. While forged in the anticipation of triumph, the end result is a meditation on failure and loss that is pretty hard to take, and without a doubt breaks new ground for the interactive medium. Created by Brian Green and his company, Numinous Games ("numinous" means "having a strong religious or spiritual quality"), this "game" (we have no other word for it that's adequate) is both gut-wrenching and an incredibly simple exploration of a young boy's four year battle with cancer. But while it takes on loss in a new way, it is also a commentary on games in general that is both surprising and profound. It is not without flaws, but the all-encompassing heart of it more than compensates for its failures.

Nerds Without Pants Episode 17: The All-Japan Pro Podcast

Sayonara, Rob-san!

Welcome to another edition of Nerds Without Pants! No, this show isn't about an epic wrestling match between Antonio Inoki and Great Baba. This time, we revisit a topic that we talked about when we were still the Tri-Force crew on PixlTalk: Japanese games. Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed III and more impressed.

Ubisoft's E3 2012 press conference showcased many games and although there weren't too many new games announced, what was shown was impressive. Trailers for Splinter Cell: Blacklist, ZombiU, and Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth were shown and a video quickly announcing Rabbids Land, Your Shape (an exercise title), and Sports Connection (a collection of mini-games) all for the Wii U was also shown.

Nintendo to Hold Another 3DS Press Event Friday

Seems Nintendo has more announcements regarding its little 3D handheld gaming machine.

Right before this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Nintendo held a Japanese press event to comment on the status of the 3DS and announce a bevy of new titles including the juggernaut that is Monster Hunter 4.  Considering that it’s only been a little more than a month it comes as a surprise that Nintendo has announced that they will be holding another press event this Friday called, “Nintendo 3DS New Information Internet Presentation.”
