Industry Stars Discuss The Game of Making Games at QuakeCon

Todd Howard and crew reveal the fun and difficult times to be had in game development.

Today’s slate of panels kicked off with “The Game of Making Games,” hosted by G4’s Blair Herter.  Ted Price of Insomniac, Jens Matthies of Machine Games, Todd Howard of Bethesda, and Raphael Colantonio of Arkane Studios made up the panel of noteworthy developers in what was primarily a Q & A session with the audience.  Herter started off by asking about each developer’s general game-making philosophy, which soon led to questions about axing faltering game elements during development no matter how much time was spent on creating them.  Herter threw out the term “killing your babies” about this design necessity and it became a recurring in-panel meme.

Nintendo DSi Now $99.99, DSi XL $129.99

The last generation's portables are now cheaper than ever.

Nintendo announced via a press release this morning that the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL will be dropped in price. Effective May 20, 2012, the Nintendo DSi will retail for $99.99 and the Nintendo DSi XL for $129.99.

Sine Mora Will Cost 1,200 MSP

The title will be $15 when it's released March 21st.

Digital Reality announced Sine Mora's March 21, 2012 release date at the end of a contest held in Facebook. Now, co-publisher Grasshopper Manufacture has revealed the price of the game via a normal press release. Joystiq is reporting the game will cost 1,200 Microsoft Points or $15. A new trailer was also released as shown below:

Xbox Live's House Party Release Dates and Prices Revealed

The recently released promotion gets started after Valentine's Day.

Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) announced on his blog the release dates and prices for the titles collectively known as the Xbox Live Arcade House Party 2012. The post also mentioned that if you purchase all four titles between February 15 and March 13, you'll receive 800 Microsoft Points.

Amazon Lists Vita Game Price Variance

Seems not all Vita games will be priced equally.

It has been long suggested that having a standard pricing system for video games wouldn’t work as the industry grew, particularly with the emergence of cheap iOS and mobile games.  Sony has been toying around with discounted prices for digital versions of Vita software in Japan and possibly the US, but a look over at Amazon.com reveals that they may be mixing it up with physical copy pricing as well.

Sony takes a long hard look at the mobile market and comes to the conclusion that change is necessary.

With the dawning of DLC updates, digital distribution and cheap mobile and iOS gaming experiences the long accepted concept of a fixed price structure for video games has come under fierce scrutiny. This is particularly true in the handheld sector, which is arguably starting to feel the sting of the free and $5 game apps that are muscling into territory long unchallenged.

Resident Evil Revelations to Cost $10 More Than Average

Expect to pay a console-like price for the handheld game.

Those of you looking forward to next year’s release of Resident Evil Revelations will have to fork over a little more cash than you may have expected.  Today Capcom announced that the 3DS exclusive will be selling for $50 - $10 more than the average cost of a handheld game.
