THQ Layoffs Total 175 Employees

VP of Tech Mark DeLoura is among those let go.

THQ announced plans for layoffs that weren't from its five main internal studios a few days ago. In light of yesterday's NASDAQ delisting threat, we now know what those cuts are going to be. It has been confirmed by Joystiq that THQ has let go 175 employees; chief among them is Mark DeLoura, Vice President of Tech.

THQ Facing NASDAQ Delisting

The publisher's share has dropped too low for NASDAQ's comfort.

THQ was once known as the publisher of dozens of licensed video games each year. Recent attempts to diversify their portfoloio has resulted in a significant drop off in their profitability, which wasn't helped by the declining popularity of the licensed game market. As a result, downsizing and layoffs have been announced and their share price has dropped below a dollar. The Saints Row publisher now faces NASDAQ delisting.

Game Informer Reveals South Park: The Game

A full scale RPG from THQ and Obsidian is on the way.

South Park has had a storied history in gaming. Back on the N64, PlayStation, and PC, Iguana Entertainment brought fans a first person shooter that carried some of the charm that made the show a hit. Later, it was followed by a racing game, South Park Rally, and a trivia game, Chef's Luv Shack. After that, the IP went dormant until Let's Go Tower Defense Play on XBLA, which is still to be followed by a four player, co-op platformer. While these small downloadable games are making a splash with players, they pale in comparison to what THQ and Obsidian have announced to be bringing to the market.

Totally inSANE THQ & Guillermo del Toro Game Collaboration Announced

THQ has announced a new collaboration of games with renowned director Guillermo del Toro. The first is expected to release in 2013.

THQ and Guillermo del Toro, director of the films Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy, have revealed their intentions to collaborate in creating an original 'Triple-A trilogy' of highly cinematic games. The games, titled inSANE, are being developed by Volition, Inc. for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Games For Windows with a slated release date of 2013 for the first chapter.
