Guild Wars 2 First Impressions

An MMORPG nomad might've found a home.

The last MMORPG to which I dedicated myself was Final Fantasy XI, which I played for about four years before I finally quit. Although my excitement for the game would eventually fade, my desire to be part of a persistent digital world continued. I attempted to scratch the itch by trying almost every other major option available: World of Warcraft, Aion, Final Fantasy XIV, Star Wars: The Old Republic, TERA, Lord of the Rings Online, and even the bite-sized iOS game Order and Chaos. I found limited success with FFXIV mostly because my wife plays, and TERA got my attention for its stylish combat. But ultimately, the search continues, and I’ve decided to give Guild Wars 2 a shot.

Inquisitor Review

Suffering from insomnia? Play Inquisitor for ten minutes before bed.

One of the things I enjoy most about working for a gaming website is the way it’s helped me expand my horizons when it comes to genre. Here at PixlBit we don’t just get to review the games we already know we love; sometimes we’re assigned a game and other times we get reviews based on our available schedules. I’ve reviewed a ton of games I likely would never have even considered playing in the year I’ve been with PixlBit, and if I’ve only learned one thing in that time it would be this: I really am not cut out for the classic ‘90s-style PC RPG. These were games designed around a specific template of hardcore tabletop RPG rules. As I played Inquisitor by Cinemax I realized that these are games made for a very specific audience, and if you aren’t part of that audience you may as well run along, because this isn’t for you.

Nintendo Has Big Plans For The 3DS eShop

Tons of original releases, Virtual Console titles, and demos are on the way.

Nintendo is known for many things, and chief among them would be their amazingly popular library of games. While that has kept the company firmly in the hearts and minds of millions of gamers, most hardcore fans would admit that the Big N hasn’t quite leveraged the digital space as well as they could. Nintendo is hoping to turn that sentiment around when it comes to the 3DS eShop. The eShop has seen some impressive original releases and some classics on the Virtual Console, but Nintendo is coming strong with a lineup of titles and content from October through the end of the year.

Rock Band Blitz Review

The party’s over.

Probably the worst part of playing alto sax in middle school band (besides having to play on braces-tightening days) was rhythm practice.  If you’re not familiar, there are entire books of rhythms written out – no notes, just the rhythms – which kids have to sit and verbalize.  “Ta ta tee tee tee tee rest ta-a-a-a-a tee tee tee tee ta ta” can be heard coming from the mouths of dreary band halls across the country as kids prepare for that next chair test or concert.   This despised exercise is what is at the core of Rock Band Blitz, and somehow they almost made it fun.

Papo & Yo Review

Gaming’s boundaries and purpose have been redefined.

Straddling the line between video game and interactive experience, Papo & Yo explores some very mature subject matter through an innocent façade. Through the eyes of Quico, a young South American boy, players take a journey through a unique and abstract world in order to cure companion Monster of his frog addiction. Portrayed in no uncertain terms, Monster represents Quico’s abusive alcoholic father who is a friend and tremendous burden. While Papo & Yo’s gameplay is certainly rough around the edges, its presentation, story, and delivery are unparalleled in the medium.
