Final Fantasy is 25 years old! With Square Enix celebrating all year long through various events, game releases, and products, we decided it was the perfect time to take a look at the RPG franchise that brought us moogles, chocobos, and spoony bards. Considering that each major console generation has had three games released for it, we’ll be breaking down the entire series from I-XIV. Enjoy our first installment with The Famicom Years!

Lightning Returns in New Final Fantasy XIII Console Game

No, not that other FF XIII game you've been waiting for.

Continuing Square-Enix’s love affair with the character Lightning, a new game has been announced for consoles that focuses on her greatest and final battle. Lightning’s powers grew beyond those of a normal human during the FF XIII-2 storyline and will continue to expand in this new game titled Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, which is set to release in 2013. It appears that customizing Lightning’s clothing and selecting from a variety of weapons will be a big feature in what might be an action-heavy adventure. Andriasang provided a liveblog translation of a presentation made at the Final Fantasy 25^th Anniversary Event in Shibuya where the new game was revealed.

We may have missed an episode, but we’re making it up to you this week with a bonus episode that gets us back on track. Even though we only recorded a week ago we have some games to talk about, including Sleeping Dogs, Final Fantasy VII PC, and Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance.

Final Fantasy VII Coming to PC This Year

And are we going to see a Final Fantasy XIII-3?

With this being the 25^th anniversary of Final Fantasy, it was only a matter of time before we saw news of the special plans Square Enix has for the auspicious occasion. This week, we got the first volley—the announcement of Final Fantasy VII on PC. But that may only end up being the tip of the iceberg.
