Shoot Many Robots Review

At least the name isn’t false advertising.

If I were to tell you that there’s a game for XBLA that combines the side-scrolling shooting of Contra with the 4 player co-op and loot based RPG mechanics of Borderlands, what would you say? Sounds pretty awesome, right? As someone who loves those two games, Shoot Many Robots sounds like it would be right up my alley. It sounds like a game crafted by the gods of programming, at least on paper. The actual execution of Shoot Many Robots is far from that idyllic image.

Nexuiz Review

Fun, fast-paced gameplay overshadowed by an outdated matchmaking system

With addictively chaotic gameplay and intelligent map design aimed at thrusting players headfirst into the action, Nexuiz has the potential to be a great game. Based on an open-source PC game that was derived from a Quake mod, Nexuiz is heavily inspired by its illustrious gaming background. Sounds like an old-school gamer’s dream, right? Unfortunately, it’s not. While Nexuiz brings us classic gameplay from a forgotten era; it also delivers an outdated matchmaking system along with it.

Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen Review

It's certainly not the prettiest game on the Vita, but it does offer fleeting moments of fun.

From the moment I booted up Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen, something felt oddly familiar. No, it wasn't because I had played the last game in the series - that title never released in America – it was something else. Visages of Tenchu immediately sprung to mind, and rightfully so, as this was a ninja game from Acquire, the minds behind Tenchu. For those familiar with the Tenchu series, this is a good thing; however, repetition and poor controls ultimately get the better of this experience.

Blizzard Takes Issue With Valve's Use of DOTA

Warcraft developer issues a notice of opposition to Valve's mod based game.

The acronym DOTA may not mean a whole lot to some people, but it apparently means a lot to Blizzard.  Short for Defense of the Ancients, DOTA began its life as a popular mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and the expansion The Frozen Throne.  Valve, a company that is decidedly not Blizzard, took notice of the mod’s popularity and began development of a sequel, aptly titled DOTA 2.
