Memories and some of my favorite games
Today is the 15th anniversary of the Nintendo 64 being released in the United States. It was the first console I got around launch time. My mother got me one from someone she worked with no longer than a month or so after it first came out. The N64 is a darling to Nintendo fans and to those who love games with a whimsical quality and an emphasis on multiplayer. I have a, shall we say, complicated impression of the Nintendo 64, but one that is shaped by great memories of playing great games with my friends.

Mario’s 25th Anniversary has already come and gone, and Nintendo’s other big franchise is celebrating its 25th this year: namely, the Legend of Zelda. Yet you already know that by now, so you are probably asking this question right now: “Matt, what the hell? Why are you doing a Mario retrospective when you could be writing about Zelda?”

Last night, Nintendo hosted a 3DS-centric press conference that revealed a variety of new games, details on existing titles, and a number of release dates and windows. The leaked peripheral that will feature a second circle pad wasn't featured at the show, though details were revealed officially by Nintendo on their website. Monster Hunter 3 G, which will utilize the peripheral, was showcased in depth, and its sequel, Monster Hunter 4 was officially revealed for the 3DS and teased with a short trailer.
Super Mario 3D Land is available for the Nintendo 3DS on November 13, 2011.
Mario Kart 7 is available for the Nintendo 3DS on December 04, 2011.
