Resonance Review

So a scientist, a reporter, a doctor, and a detective walk into a bar...

The point and click adventure game—such a prolific part of PC gaming in the ‘90s—has seen a renaissance in recent years. A large part of that is thanks to the episodic releases of Telltale Games, as well as the proliferation of Kickstarter breathing new life into old IPs. But by and large these games are trading in on gamer nostalgia. You remember Leisure Suit Larry, don’t you? How about Escape From Monkey Island? While revisiting those classic games can be fun, there’s something to be said about having an original title that hits the same beats as those old adventure games. That’s exactly what XII Games has done with Resonance—a new adventure game that could have easily occupied shelf space right next to Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Hands On Preview

High Moon’s latest impresses.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is on its way to being just as good, if not better than its predecessor if my latest hands-on with the game is any indicator. 2010’s War for Cybertron left a lasting impression on me, and was one of my favorite games of that year. It finally set the bar for what a Transformers game should be like with the right amount of action, fluidity of gameplay,  and the overall production value. Thankfully, Fall of Cybertron continues that trend. The latest demo, which includes single and multiplayer components shows that High Moon has learned from some of its mistakes in the last game and is trying hard to make sure that Fall of Cybertron is a better game overall.

Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World Review

Even if you didn't like the similar adventure in Zelda 2, you may still like this game.

One question frequently asked about the Monster World games is “Did Zelda influence the Wonder Boy franchise?” While there’s a well-documented commonality between these games and Nintendo’s Zelda franchise—particularly Link’s second NES adventure— there’s enough done here to make it feel unique from its rumored 8 bit Hyrulian influences. It is safe to say however, that if you enjoyed even the concept of Zelda 2, you can stop reading now and hit the marketplace to pick this up. If the mere mention of The Adventure of Link brings fear or loathing to your soul, read on, as the game may still be right for you.

Wasteland 2 Comes With Wasteland

Get two games for the price of one when Wasteland 2 is complete.

During the past few months it feels like nearly every legendary game designer of the ‘80s and ‘90s has come out of the woodwork with a Kickstarter to either create a new game or a remake of one of their classics. One of the more high profile games to get funded was inXile’s Wasteland 2. Wasteland was a game that captured the hearts and minds of many PC gamers in the late ‘80s, but for a vast majority of current players it’s not a known quantity. If you’re one of those late-to-the-party people that are curious about picking up this sequel, fear not; it was announced today that Wasteland 2 will have the original game included.
