Resident Evil: Revelations Review

A thrilling new direction for the Resident Evil series.

Since the release of Resident Evil 4, there has been a division of opinions amongst longtime fans of the series. Some preferred the isolated exploration of the first four titles – including Code Veronica – whereas others favored the open world, more shooter focused style established in 4 and 5. The newest title in the series, Resident Evil: Revelations, introduces an entirely new spin on both approaches, while making some great changes to the core formula as well.

Hit Refresh to See the Latest Site Updates!

PixlBit has received yet another upgrade.

We've reconfigured the header and added a news ticker to the site, but for it all to look right, you probably want to click "Refresh" on your browser. Before doing so, the site's sure to look a little weird. Generally speaking, any time the site looks weird, this is a good tactic to employ, as we probably updated something in the style.

Community, Not Publisher, Funds Double Fine Adventure

The next game out of Double Fine Productions will be entirely funded by community pledges.

Sometimes miraculous things happen in the video game community.  Double Fine Productions, creators of cult favorite games like Psychonauts, Costume Quest and most recently Double Fine Happy Action Theater wants to return to their roots and produce a simple “point-and-click” adventure game that they are aptly calling Double Fine Adventure.  Usually a developer would have to rely on a publisher, investors or bank loans to bankroll such a production, but Double Fine has instead decided to reach out to the community to fund the game.

Rise of the Martian Bear Review

What has a bear, a beard, two-legged mechs, and flies? Iron Brigade: Rise of the Martian Bear.

Last year, I praised and criticized Double Fine's Trenched before it received a new name. My verdict? It played and worked well, but didn't offer enough variety and versatility to last as long as a proper tower defense game should. Fortunately, Rise of the Martian Bear provides a lot of content, weapons, and towers that resolve many of the issues the original Iron Brigade faced.

Tales of the Abyss Preview

Re-discover the meaning of birth, this time in 3D.

In 2006, fans of the Tales series were starving for more. Coming off of the surprising success of Tales of Symphonia for the Nintendo Gamecube were not one, but two titles in the same year. The first, Tales of Legendia went largely ignored for its odd art style and lackluster presentation. The second title was Tales of the Abyss, which seemed like more of the natural progression of what Symphonia had achieved earlier.

Square Enix Reveals Sleeping Dogs

Thankfully it isn't another Kane & Lynch game.

Last month information surfaced on NeoGaf that Square Enix had filed for a trademark on “Sleeping Dogs.”  Many presumed that this meant that another Kane & Lynch game would soon be forthcoming, as the last game in that series was subtitled, Dog Days.  Fortunately for us, Square Enix has put those dogs down and has instead announced Sleeping Dogs as a brand new, open-world action game set in the streets of Hong Kong.
