Dear Diary: Today I beat up a tree.
From the moment Code of Princess was announced, comparisons between it and Guardian Heroes were inevitable. Videos quickly showed that the gameplay was extremely similar, and quite a few members of the staff that previously worked on Guardian Heroes were on the design team. It's a fair comparison, and a rather impressive one considering Guardian Heroes did a lot for the brawler genre at a time where it was at risk of becoming irrelevant. It’s chief contributions included the inclusion of RPG elements like leveling, stat management, and magic, at a time when this practice wasn’t nearly as mainstream as it is today.
Making sense of THQ's bankruptcy filing
A lot of noise has been made of THQ’s supposed downfall recently. Yesterday the company revealed that they have filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and as can be expected within the confines of the video game industry’s supposed journalistic quarter, articles started coming out wondering where some of THQ’s assets and IPs would be heading in light of its complete and utter decimation.
True believers, I present an MMO worth your consideration.
I love super heroes and I love video games so naturally whenever there is a combination of the two, I get excited. Though the results aren’t always favorable, there are a host of games that do our heroes justice. MMOs on the other hand have been a different beast, mainly hitting their stride a few years back with City of Heroes. Last year, DC took their chances in the MMO space with DC Universe Online, which has had decent success. While that game operates much like you would expect, Marvel has enlisted Gazillion Entertainment to helm their super powered MMO. Headed by Diablo creator David Brevick, Marvel Heroes combines elements from dungeon crawlers like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and the Diablo franchise to create something that has the potential to be great.

Even though there’s still plenty of excitement revolving around the launch of a new console, be it handheld or otherwise, it seems as though the days of week-long lines and potential riots have been all but killed off by the widespread use of pre-orders. Those launch line ups were quite the experience, but those early days were made even more memorable when the new hardware was unsealed and powered up for the first time. When the Wii Launched on November 19, 2006, nobody predicted it would be snapped up just as soon as it could be stocked on store shelves. We also weren’t sure what direction the innovative motion controls and classic Nintendo franchises would take us. To relive the elation and anticipation of the Wii Launch experience, some of the PixlBit crew thought it would be fun to share their own launch day memories. Probably the worst part of playing alto sax in middle school band (besides having to play on braces-tightening days) was rhythm practice. If you’re not familiar, there are entire books of rhythms written out – no notes, just the rhythms – which kids have to sit and verbalize. “Ta ta tee tee tee tee rest ta-a-a-a-a tee tee tee tee ta ta” can be heard coming from the mouths of dreary band halls across the country as kids prepare for that next chair test or concert. This despised exercise is what is at the core of Rock Band Blitz, and somehow they almost made it fun.
Advances in the study of loots are needed to make Heroes of Ruin be anything special.
The age old question of what makes a loot phat has yet to be answered. There is no magic formula for the presentation of said loots, nor is there an equation for the perfect mixture of merely acceptable loots and those that are in fact phat. Once researchers have uncovered the perfect recipe, applying this know-how to Heroes of Ruin might make it something fantastic instead of what it is now: completely and thoroughly decent.
