Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan Review

Etrian Odyssey’s evolution may have reached uber-game levels.

Having just recently completed Etrian Odyssey III, I wasn’t sure if I had it in me to dive right back into another massive adventure.  I mean, heck, I was a little worn out from all of the grinding I had been doing and wasn’t so sure I wanted to get into that again.  Well, somehow I got sucked back into this mess and am I ever grateful.  Atlus has taken the fourth Etrian Odyssey game through a monstrous evolutionary process to create the best balanced, most addictive, strategically engaging dungeon crawler around.

MIA - Streets of Rage

No, seriously-- where are you, Yuzo Koshiro?

People complain about the plethora of Modern Warfare first person shooters these days, but those same people forget that every few years there’s some genre that dominates the gaming landscape. We’ve gone through the survival horror phase, the RPG obsession, the fighting game craze, and of course the beat ‘em up era. During that time, one of the most popular and legendary brawlers was the Streets of Rage series. It’s been nearly 20 years since Sega’s personal head crackers had a new adventure, so it’s time to dust off this franchise and resurrect it.

Backloggers Anonymous The Soundtrack Special

Bust out your headphones, this one’s for the music fans.

Great news! Well, for me anyway - I’m on vacation. What this means is we won’t be talking about Darksiders this week. Instead, I’ve decided to solo this podcast and talk about one of my favorite things about modern gaming: the music.

Street Fighter X Mega Man Review

This isn't the Blue Bomber's triumphant return, but it is a good way to waste an afternoon.

I love Mega Man, and have ever since I played Mega Man 2 at a friend’s house in elementary school. Even now I’ve been known to pop the Xbox version of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection into my 360 from time to time to replay some of the better games in his 8-bit career. Needless to say, when I heard Capcom had picked up Street Fighter x Mega Man—a reportedly well-made and interesting fan project— to release to their fans for free, I was understandably excited.

Street Fighter x Mega Man Coming Dec. 17

A fan made project kicks off the Blue Bomber's 25th anniversary early.

It’s been a rough time for Mega Man fans lately. After the departure of creator Keiji Inafune, work involving the Blue Bomber seems to have ground to a halt within Capcom. After two cancelled projects (Mega Man Legends 3 for 3DS and Mega Man Universe for digital download) the company has been oddly mum on the franchise. With Dr. Light’s favorite son about to celebrate his 25th birthday people have been wondering if there’s any hope left for the series. While Capcom is remaining silent on what they have planned for 2013, fans can look forward to a labor of love coming to them for free this month. Enter a new challenger, in the form of Street Fighter x Mega Man.

Street Fighter X Tekken Review

Fighting on the go is fun… as long as you don’t plan on taking it online.

As usual, resident PixlBit fighting game expert, Jon “JD” Lewis, has done an excellent job reviewing Street Fighter X Tekken when it released some months ago on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. After a short delay, the game has finally made its way to the PlayStation Vita, where I finally had an opportunity to check it out. Sadly, much of what JD complained about back then still persists today, especially the oft-laggy online mode and the slightly misguided gem system.

Street Fighter X Tekken Preview

Ryu vs. Kazuya, Hugo vs. Jack X, Sakura vs. Xiaoyu, all in the palm of your hands!

Street Fighter X Tekken was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 earlier this year but the PlayStation Vita version is still on the way. Capcom plans on selling you on purchasing a portable version of the game by including touch screen functionality, cross-platform play with the PlayStation 3, and more. So will you want to buy another version of the same game? Do you need another version of this game if you already own one? Should you be upset if you got the Xbox 360 version?

And it's amazing.

We’re at a point in time when a plethora of franchises from the early days of gaming are reaching major milestones.  Just one of those storied game series is Street fighter, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary all year long.  Capcom has already announced that they would be holding a global tournament series to mark the occasion, but Street Fighter fans and video game collectors will surely be much more excited about the newly announced Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set.
