I'm sure many of you out there are like me and enjoy an eclectic assortment of music. This thread will act as a spot to share new music we come across in our day to day. Just call out the type of music it is and the artist/song you decide to feature.

A recent love of mine is Davenport Cabinet. Featuring Travis Stever, guitarist of Coheed and Cambria, and his cousin Tyler (among others), this folk rock band puts out some really great and airy tunes. Here's one of my favorites from their album Our Machine:

Not sure if I embedded this right, I'm terrible at this Nick, especially considering I'm going to be starting a computer science degree at school this year, my professors will have their hands full.

There's an ambient electronica dude who goes by Tycho and his album Dive is something I really fell in love with last year. I listened to it a ton while I played Red Dead Redemption for the first time and I have to say it fit the mood perfectly for me. The soundtrack is pretty great in Red Dead but this Tycho album felt even more perfect for me personally so I always listened to it while I played. Really pretty, paints some great pictures in your mind. Lots of energy but it's not dancy or housy. Very relaxing and really excellent as far as ambient music goes.

This is excellent and helps me out greatly as far as what I do for work.

Here are a couple songs I helped to get on the station I once DJ'd for and now manage.

From when I was a DJ, circa Fall 2011 to Spring 2012

More recently, Fall 2013 to Spring 2014:

And we play more by male and rock artists, but these were the more obscure ones I remembered off top of my head.

I like Christian Stobe's remix of Tensnake's "Something About You".

These were all great, guys. Thanks for sharing! However, I especially liked Dive from Tycho. It actually reminded me quite a bit of the Fez soundtrack from Disasterpiece (embedded below). It's not normally a genre I'm into, but I've found myself enjoying it when I do happen to check something out.

For those of you who want some really neat new prog rock, check this out. They used to be death metal, then prog metal, now prog rock, but have been amazing with every album:

I was introduced to this band from South Africa a few years ago. I haven't heard much said about them here in the US, but they definitely have a worldwide following. Kinda a disturbing video but reading into them, their message is a good one.

They have been to the US. I've seen on youtube a video of them in some fesitval, and on a late night talk show. Also:

For those that want to see more: http://www.dieantwoord.com/tension.html#videoz

[Warning: their songs are quite culturally based, so they look quite kooky.]

Good ole Die Antwoord. My neighbour introduced me to them, and I fell in love. Then I showed some of my friends and my brother and they played them so much I got sick of them.

I was listening to this in the car 10 minutes ago. I had to find it. This is Jose Gonzalez covering a Knife song.

For comparison here's the original by Fever Ray (not her real name) and her brother who perform together as The Knife. Totally different but I love it just as much

Maybe all the radio play or the Superbowl ad from this year with the puppy and Clydesdale?

Figured out when uploading stuff to the station the other day that Joan Jett has a new single

as does 311 ... and Boy George, but here's some Aer instead

I know some of you really liked the ambient electronic music I posted from Tycho last time. Today I'll come with some music that isn't electronic but is very much relaxing and has a similar vibe, but through an instrumental rock/post-rock sound. I really love these guys, I throw them on in the background while I'm playing games, doing homework, or whatever. Band is called Signal Hill, they come out of California.

Been digging Weerd Science lately. Not much of a rap guy, but Josh has some great flow, interesting beats, and really diverse sounds undercutting his jams. Check out the tracks below for a sample:

Liszt's Years of Pilgrimage, specifically the piece titled Orage (storm). This is a piece trying to break the piano, pushing it to the very edge of it's endurance. Listening in the car, the bass notes rang out so loudly, it left my mouth agape. I didn't know so much sound could be produced by a piano. I think I just caught Lisztomania!

Mastodon, a metal band with notes of prog rock and psychedelic rock, just released a new album Once More 'Round the Sun. I got it and listened to most of it tonight. It's great! The first music video, High Road, is hilariously awesome too. Get ready for a story of one boy's trials with a LARP group.
