Call of Duty: Black Ops II Review

War has changed. Or has it?

With Call of Duty coming out every November like clockwork and a slew of shooters jumping on that “modern warfare” bandwagon it can be easy to succumb to shooter fatigue. That doesn’t mean I can borrow a page from classic gaming history and turn in a review that reads “just another shooting game” though; each Call of Duty game brings something to the table that’s worth talking about. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 moves the franchise forward in some ambitious ways, but it’s held back by the very structure the series is known for.

Transformers Prime - The Game Review

I present to you - the Matrix of Mediocrity

As a fan of the television series Transformers Prime, I have to admit that part of me enjoyed parts of this game that is clearly aimed for a much younger audience. Earlier this year, I got my Transformers fix with High Moon’s Fall of Cybertron, but I felt that Prime had an opportunity to do justice to a different part of Transformers lore. The universes are both part of Hasbro’s initiative to create continuity within the cannon and not only that, but a dark and grittier tone is also shared by both. After playing Transformers: Prime however, I was left disappointed.

Marvel Heroes Hands On Preview

True believers, I present an MMO worth your consideration.

I love super heroes and I love video games so naturally whenever there is a combination of the two, I get excited. Though the results aren’t always favorable, there are a host of games that do our heroes justice. MMOs on the other hand have been a different beast, mainly hitting their stride a few years back with City of Heroes. Last year, DC took their chances in the MMO space with DC Universe Online, which has had decent success. While that game operates much like you would expect, Marvel has enlisted Gazillion Entertainment to helm their super powered MMO. Headed by Diablo creator David Brevick, Marvel Heroes combines elements from dungeon crawlers like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and the Diablo franchise to create something that has the potential to be great.

The Walking Dead: The Game - Episode 4: Around Every Corner Review

Whelp… THAT just happened.

By the end of Episode 3 of Telltale’s “The Walking Dead”, I felt like I had been taken on an emotional rollercoaster. Many events happened that changed the scope of the situation for Lee, Clementine and the rest of the group, and I knew going into Episode 4 that it would continue down that path. Knowing also that Episode 4 is the lead up to their Episode 5 finale I hoped that the stakes would be raised in order to provide for a satisfying final chapter. Thankfully, I was not disappointed.

Farewell to the Wii: Memories of the Launch

The PixlBit staff shares their Wii launch day memories.

Even though there’s still plenty of excitement revolving around the launch of a new console, be it handheld or otherwise, it seems as though the days of week-long lines and potential riots have been all but killed off by the widespread use of pre-orders.  Those launch line ups were quite the experience, but those early days were made even more memorable when the new hardware was unsealed and powered up for the first time.  When the Wii Launched on November 19, 2006, nobody predicted it would be snapped up just as soon as it could be stocked on store shelves.  We also weren’t sure what direction the innovative motion controls and classic Nintendo franchises would take us.  To relive the elation and anticipation of the Wii Launch experience, some of the PixlBit crew thought it would be fun to share their own launch day memories.  If you have some of your own, be sure to share them in the comments.

To The Moon Review

Barely a game, but that doesn't make it any less of an experience.

To the Moon created a bit of buzz a few months ago. Originally released in 2011 through the author, Kan Gao’s website, the game acquired a cult following. People who played the game praised it, claiming that it had one of the best stories in gaming. Now that the game is available on Steam, even more players will be able to see if those claims were legitimate. From my time with the game, I can say that it lives up to the hype.

Sonic Adventure 2 Review

I've lived and learned that some things are better left in the past.

I have fond memories of Sonic Adventure 2. The revision, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, was the first game I ever played on a Nintendo Gamecube, and I remember that moment very clearly. At the time, I swore it was one of the coolest games ever. Running down the side of a building at high speeds? It was awesome to me at the time. On top of that you had two parallel stories that lead to an epic final chapter. I made it a priority to eventually own the game and I did, and I enjoyed it a lot. From the campaign to the Chao garden, I spent a lot more time playing Sonic Adventure 2 than I should have.  Looking through the lens of Sonic Adventure 2 HD, it’s kind of hard to see why I enjoyed the game so much in the first place.

NYCC 2012 Wii U Round Up

Wii U had a lot to offer at this year's New York Comic Con. Here are some highlights.

At New York Comic Con 2012, one of the biggest spectacles on the show floor was the Nintendo Wii U. Releasing this November, gamers and curious bystanders were interested to see what the big deal is with Nintendo’s new console.  If the long lines and constant crowd was any indicator, Nintendo’s Wii U made a positive impression, with many great titles on display. Here are just some of those, and my quick impressions based on the demos available on the show floor:
