Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Review

Aim, fire, Fulton. Aim, fire, Fulton. Aim, fire, Fulton. Aim, fire, Fulton.......

Let me ask you a question: How many video game series have, outside of spin-offs, made every game feel like a true sequel? Where every game does not just add a few of tweaks, unnecessary gimmicks, or offer nothing other than more of the same, but provides a strong, natural evolution to the previous entry? Very few fit that bill and if you factor in games which have existed for over twenty years, you are left only with Metal Gear.

Tembo The Badass Elephant Review

An elephant single-handedly winning the war on terror. This must be what the GOP dreams about.

At the beginning of the year, a friend of mine and I were discussing our favorite games of 2014. His was Far Cry 4, citing how his favorite part was riding elephants, while mine was Dragon Age: Inquisition noting how much fun the dragon hunts were. We reached the conclusion that if a game could let you fight dragons with elephants, it would be the game of forever. I bring this up because the first boss of Tembo: The Badass Elephant is a robot dragon. That’s right, the coolest thing I have ever thought of and this game outdid that idea. While not quite the greatest game ever I imagined, what Tembo offers is pretty damn fun.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Review

Woo hoo Witcher woman! She got the moon in her eyes!

The Witcher games have always been very odd for me. Fantasy RPGs tend to stick with a particular tried-and-true formula, yet the series has made an effort to be distinctly different from everything that might make it similar to Dragon Age or The Elder Scrolls. Some of the decisions - like its distinct races and lore - are a welcome diversion. Yet there are some design choices which feel different for the sake of being different at best and baffling at worst.

Pokemon Omega Ruby Review

Advancing the Advanced Generation

Seeing these games announced was one of the most surreal moments in gaming news. Not because there was a new Pokémon game- (those will never end), but because the series is so strong that even the black sheep of the franchise received a remake. Remaking the original games made sense, as did remaking fan favorites Gold and Silver, especially since the first two generations had vastly inferior mechanics to the then current games.

Why We Game: A Celebration of Our Favorite Hobby

Keep it positive, San Diego.

Boy, 2014 was a rough year to be in this gaming thing, hasn’t it? Disappointing games, crushing release date delays, and more scandal than you can shake a stick at have all detracted from why we are all here. In the current stormy waters it can become easy to lose sight of why video games are so great, as well as the fact that every person behind one of these online avatars is an honest to goodness person that also happens to love this hobby. PixlBit is here as an island of calm and hope in a sea of turmoil, and we can think of no better way to remember why we still love games than by putting together a massive feature that involves our passionate staff and our incredibly talented bloggers. We are gamers. We are writers. And this is why we game.
