Cruisin' Thru Mass Effect

              MassEffectAsteroid

Last week I finally finished the main story line of Mass Effect 1. It was an incredible ride, one that took me over five years to finally get to. The one complaint I have was having to get down with Ashley just before the final confrontation with Saren. In my playthrough she killed Wrex and I was quite pissed about it. I was trying to talk him down from joining with Saren's forces when she just up and shot him in the back. I thought, man, why did I ever keep you around. Oh yea, that white space suit. Well, from then on I was pretty much wanting to ignore her. I could've sent her on the suicide mission after that, but I didn't. Maybe I just wanted a pretty face around or maybe I just disliked Kaiden more. Who knows. All I know is that when the romance scene started happening later in the game, I was dead set against doing anything with the woman who'd killed Wrex, the toughest member of the team, and in the back no less. But guess what, I couldn't get out of it. The dialog just inevitably led me to her and me in bed on the Normandy. This game gives you a lot of choices, but sometimes you are just too deep in a situation to get out of it. Anyway, I much rather fancied Tali or Liara who were my main team members throughout the game. Maybe I just botched something in the way I played the game, but I got stuck with the wrong partner at the right time.

Today I finsihed the first DLC Bring Down the Sky and took the screen shot you see above. I love the way the game takes lots of recent astronomy and puts it into the game. The idea of redirecting an asteroid has been much talked about recently. There was even a dialog option that basically told you details of what would happen if a large asteroid hit a life bearing planet.

It wasn't a very long mission but it took all afternoon and it was a lot of fun. Funny thing. I have been using nothing but my pistol this whole time. I am an engineer and I still haven't used my special abilities. It's not obvious which button activates them. It took me most of the gave just to figure out how to change weapons. There wasn't a controls diagram I could look at in the settings, so I've been just jabbing buttons trying to figure out which does what. Mostly I'm just playing dumb though to keep things simple, but I should figure out how to use my special skills. Pistol shooting gets a bit boring after a while.

Tomorrow I'll dig into Pinnacle Station. I actually downloaded it already and started to go there, but decided I'd better get Liara the biotic on this my second playthrough first. Then I will have Tali and Liara in my party just like I did on my first playthrough. Maybe I'll not be so lazy and look up how to use my other skills or maybe I'll just continue to use nothing but my pistol. Ah  it's fun to just leave it all be sometimes and just take in the view along the way.

goddamn I forgot just how beautiful that game is sometimes.  What a wonder that game is.

Yea, it's amazing. I love the way you can play it as easy or hard as you want and that the character's responses can be different depending on what you say to them. I've only replayed the very beginning of the game up until you become a Spectre, but I've already noticed new things in the dialog.

The mass effect games along with the Dragon age games are among my favs on the 360,well Dragon age origins didnt like dragon age 2 but anyway I give you props for beating the first one although you may not want to loose wrex since he comes in handy in part 2,but anyway I sold all my three original copys and got the trilogy which I will be doing a reveiw on,but this is an awesome game i just wish they would have kept the Mako i liked it and why they pulled it is beyond me.

Dragon Age Origins is another one I recently bought. I have been wanting to play it for years.

I think next time I go back to Mass Effect I will choose to be a soldier and use Wrex and Liara.

Dragon Age origins will eat alot of your life away but in a good way I have been playing off and on for years and with all the dlc awakening and all the other dlc I have not even  got to yet and im still playing through the main game about 80+ hours and still no end in sight lol

Wow. I usually end up playing something else when I get close to the hundred hour mark. I get restless with the same game after living with it for a month or more.

Loved this game.  Played for the first time last summer.  I can't remember what choices I made exactly, but I didn't keep the girl so I had no idea about the "love scene".  Interesting.  I really need to play again or start mass effect 2.

I tried the other day to talk up Liara, but it was getting nowhere. I don't know if its possible to romance other characters in the game. I think maybe that was a feature in Mass Effect 2 and 3, but not 1, because I remember people talking about it alot when 2 came out.

I own the fist two games and will be starting soon. This series has always fascinated me,yet the scope of it all intimidates me. Knowing that my decisions will have lasting effects on the story will be wild. My son understands the game very well. He has the books and graphic novels. He will help me get started and on the right path.

I read the first Mass Effect book. It gives you the story of the mission that got Capt. Anderson removed from the Spectres. It's recapped by Anderson if you talk to him in the game. I just thought it was neat they linked up the stories of both novel and game so closely. I should probably read the other books too. I've read all the comics which are excellent. The first one deals with Liara and her dealings with the Shadow Broker and Cerebus.

After one  and 1/4 playthroughs, I'm still not comfortable with the combat, but I think if I play again not as an engineer, I'll have access to more weapons and can do more. I've got to figure out the special skills too. I think I managed to hack one robot that was attacking me the other day. Aim and hit "X" I think.

Wrex died? You really need to fix that.

It totally surprised me. I litterally yelled WTF when it happened and forever had a grudge against Ashley. I think I hadn't built up my persuasion abilities enough because there's an achievement for using them to get out of an impossible situation. That may have been one of them.

I just finished Mass 2 and just started Mass 3, going marathon on them. I could be wrong but I think Ash and Liara are the only ones you can hook up with on the first game. I Didn't like Ash either with her racist speciest attitude, got Liara. Got to keep Wrex too, used him exclusively. Although you can hook up with Tali in Mass 2, I stayed faithful to Liara and probably will on this first play through. I have a feeling I will be playing through this trilogy for years.

As for the abilities and weapon swap you have to hold down the R2 abilities and L2 weapons. I played as an infiltrator in Mass 1 and even though the Sniper should have been my main weapon it was so hard to use I pretty much stuck with the pistol too. But the abilities can be very useful and keep thing interesting.

A month ago I thought that maybe it was possible I could get through all three games, but I only finished Mass Effect 1 and its DLC.

Yeah I sunk probably a little over 40 hrs into Mass1 and I don't think I played the dlc, not sure. Got over 50 into Mass 2 and I know I didn't get the dlc on it. I'm 10 hrs into Mass 3, pretty intense and I haven't even tried the multiplayer yet. Might could beat all three games in a month if you don't work and hardly sleep. Sounds like a Guiness record challenge.

It looked up some speed run times for all the Mass Effect games and it looks like, if you know what your doing, you can do it all in 30 hours or so. Now that's a marathon for charity! Mass Effect Trilogy in one day! This is of course, not a very enjoyable experience probably.

Yeah, most likely gotta skip all the optional missions which means you'd miss a lot of loot. Even on easy could be tough if your sporting weak gear. No, doesn't sound very fun.
