Really, two weeks of stuff here. I swap out consoles like they were cakes on display at a cake shop except for the Xbox Series S, which is always hooked up.

i played a bunch of stuff from my month's theme (70s). When I run out of stuff on a particular day, I default to Lego Star Wars.

Once a month, I do the rounds at the four indie game stores in my area and see what I can find. Part 1 of this happened a week ago and included two stores (Classic Game Junkies and Game 'n' DVD Exchange). Today was Part 2 and two other stores a little farther away (Just Press Play and Complete in Box). Here's what I got this week:

This is my January 2025 goal, to sample games of the 70s. It was just console gen 1, but that is so limited, I thought I'd add a few years and make it the whole 70s. This includes the first years of the Atari 2600 and the very first arcade hits. The true console gen 2, to me, starts at 1980 when things really blow up in the arcades and at home. Also, I'm continuing certain game genre's into the present because they are just so iconic of the first gen of gaming like brick breakers. So here's my handheld iternerary for January (the console stuff will be in another post).

How to play what I want to play and get it done. I often end up with these gigantic lists that are impossible to get through. I also end up buying games that just end up in the backloggery. So how to solve this? I think I have an answer.

I have a few half days of gaming in my week that I thought, from hear on out, I would devote to handheld games. Then I'd attack the console stuff on full days off from work. That is, barring any other distraction. So this week I played 3DS and then returned to Xbox Series S.

This would be January 2025 when I will be focusing on the first generation of consoles and games from the 70s in general, plus some digging into even older stuff if I run out of games to play. It will be the beginning of the year and the beginning of games, video or otherwise. Here's the first list I wrote up:
