MiiDonalds, From Hell, Ulysses, and Fitness

I got very little done gaming wise all week. I collected my Miis by stopping at McDonalds. Most of the time it worked but today I got nothing from going there. I discovered the chicken snack wrap as a good alternative to those dollar cheeseburgers I usually get (I always have to buy something even though I’m only there for the Spot Pass). I finished Find Mii II and started over again. I noticed there is a Secret Quest you can choose from the menu the second time around, so I did that. I think it just added another path on the map screen. I’m almost finished the Fire Emblem Awakening 3D picture in Puzzle Swap. I’m going to do the Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon one next.

I finished graphic novel From Hell, a story about Jack the Ripper by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell. It’s told very boldly with unflinching, gruesome detail and full of interesting ideas about the freemasons. I’m reading the appendix that tells where he got the ideas for each part of the book. It’s occurred to me while reading this that even Alan Moore will not let the facts get in the way of good story telling. This might be an important lesson to learn.

I’ve also finished Ulysses by James Joyce. This book is hard to follow, but you have to throw out all your expectations of traditional story telling. This is just Mr. Bloom’s and Mrs. Bloom’s thoughts and nothing is left out. You get every detail from high minded thinking to sexual fantasies and everything in between. It’s absolutely overwhelming how much is packed into this book. The language alone will have you up at all hours looking up words you never heard of before. It’s also very funny. Joyce is quite a wit and makes you giggle frequently. I’ll always keep some parts of this book in my head from now on. Perhaps I’ll read it again sometime and learn new things. Certainly there is ocean enough of content here to keep a person thinking time and time again.

I got some good exercise in this week and it actually helped me find time to get some chores done as well. I’m getting into a good routine and I’m going to try and keep it going. I want physical changes to ignite mental changes that’ll solve some of the career issues I’m having right now. The physical is the key though, so I have to focus on that first. One will lead to the other, I’m sure of that.

That’s about it. Not much gaming but some good progress in other areas of my life this week.

Keep it crunchy picklebits.

I did nothing but eat and be generally sedentary all this week for spring break. Definitely want to get back on the wagon.

Moore clearly does want to make From Hell as close to the truth as possible. He did a lot of research (some with the help of Neil Gaimon I noticed too), clearly, to make the story jive with the real life facts. However, he's certainly aware of trying to make this a good story and not some dry history. It interesting to think about all this research done and then making a piece of entertainment out of it. I'm ruminating over that.

I kind of do the same thing a lot in my work, doing a lot of research that's more food for my imagination then trying to stick to some accurate history.  I dunno, that model just intrigues me.

Research is so much fun. Moore went on trips around London and to museums and libraries. I love that stuff.

yeah I want to write a book about Joan of Arc someday and I would like to do research in France at historical sites and whatnot.

I've been gaming but it's mostly been bravely default. I shouldn't have started this game, I think I'm forever hooked to it. I almost have find mii 2 beat again so I can't wait to do that extra path. I've noticed locked areas on it.

I played the demo for Bravely Default and liked it, but not enough to buy it; however, a lot of people keep talking about it, and now I'm kinda interested again. I really should have that game.

I never tried the wraps there, I'm usually a double cheeseburger and a mcchicken fan (not together, although that would be interesting.)

The wrap was alright. You can get grilled or fried chicken in them.
