I felt they handled elemental balence better in BL2. Most characters were either good with one or two elements or got a perk for non elemental guns. Maya; fire & corrosion, Gaige; electric and fire, Kriege; fire and explosive. Plus from what I have read in the strat guide elemental damage is more important in tvhm.So it will only get more crazy. I just wish there were more chest to farm, makes keeping gear fresh easier. The golden key glitch would be nice too though.
Borderlands, You Task Me

I played a lot of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel today. I continued with my Baroness character. I came across the same problem I had with my other characters. If you limit what equipment you choose to equip, you will end up being underpowered in the late parts of the game.
Not wholly the Ice Queen anymore
I spent my whole time with this character razor focued on equipment that had cryo (or ice) damage. I chucked everything else. I even saved lower level cryo equipment in my bank and tried to crush them to make better ones (This doesn't work because they don't stay cryo when you combine them). It was fun for a while, but when I got to the first really big boss, Zapedon, I got my ass kicked. My shields weren't good enough and neither was my damage. So I gave up. I guess I just wasn't lucky to find enough cryo amped equipment.
I've discovered that you can't really play this game with such a narrow approach. You have to go with the way the random items drop and pick the best ones. This may mean you have weapons with all different elemental effects and a shield, that at one time in your playthrough, has a nova burst (explodes when depleted) and later, amp damage (uses it's shield capacity to boost your weapon's damage). You just don't have complete control over this game. The random drops dictate, to some degree, your experience.
To beat Zarpedon, I quickly looked through my extra gear and selected the best regardless of elemental effect or other factors. I went from freezing everything in sight with a sniper riffle and pistol, to blasting away with a huge, explosive damage rocket launcher and a bullet spraying SMG. My shield doubled in size but without an icy nova blast to freeze melee attackers. I switched to an acid damage, legendary grenade instead of the ice storm one I had before. Oh well, my Ice Queen was somewhat not an Ice Queen anymore, but survival was more important.
I find it infuriating that I can't 100% play this game the way I want to, but I'm living with it. It's still a fantastic game that I can't get enough of.
Tomorrow, more of the same, but I may finally dig into the new DLC rather than finish the story.
And, oh yeah, I hooked up my new component cable to my PS3 so it's picture looks just a bit sharper. I wish I could play two games at once. I miss playing PS3.
