I finally broke down and got a turntable to play those old vinyl records and then I got a couple pieces of vinyl to play. I picked up a CD from the library and got the last game in my current gaming play list. That'll be it for games, except for must-have day-one stuff, until I finish my playlist. See picture of all below.

After getting this audio-technica turntable from Barnes & Noble with my member discount and another discount I had, I'm wondering if I will really be able to record from it to my laptop. I have to do some research and it might turn out that I'll have to return it for the USB turntable they have. I didn't like that one though. It looked too flimsy and unstable. But I have to be able to record to my hard drive. I need these vinyl tracks for my ipod in my car.

I picked up a few vinyl albums from my used record store. Argent's Ring of Hands and Pretty Things Parachute. These were both for my late 60s early 70s playlists. I've been looking for Parachute for a long time. Then I got a Moody Blues album from the library, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, for my 1971 progressive rock playlist which I'm listening to now in shuffle mode in the last hour of work every night. It's an awesome playlist. I'm loving it. Next up will be metal albums from 1971. I'll work on that in a week or two when I can't find any more music to add to the '71 prog list. Then it's on to '72 and on and on and on.

Finally, I picked up Super Mario Galaxy 2 with a bunch of Gamestop rewards points. I got it for $5 after the coupon. I now have all twelve games in my current play list. I'm going to stick to it until I've finished them all too. At least, that's the plan.

I have that same turntable!  It's a good start, but I'm gonna upgrade later this year to a nicer one.  But this one is pretty good for the price, definitely does the job!

I added some Moody Blues vinyl to my shopping cart.  I'm gonna get into them soon.

When picking Moody Blues to listen to it is important to remember that earlier is better. As they went on they became more adult oriented rock and less prog. (Read: boring old farts)

Start with Days of Future Passed and move chronologically.

In Search of the Lost Chord, On the Threshold of a Dream, To Our Children's Children's Children, A Question of Balance, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour.

Do as you will after that.

Oh and there is earlier music but it's from back in the mid sixties when they were just another pop band. Their big hit from 65 was Go Now but it ain't no prog rock. Pretty typical for back then.

it's funny how many bands start out as pop stars.  well, that's where the money is.  Tongue Out

My favorite is In Search of the Lost Chord.

I read some reviews and it seems pretty good. It looks like I'll be able to record to my laptop as well, but I may need some software. Right now though, I need a table for it. I forgot that it's not wise to put my bass speaker cab next to my laptop. Magnets.

Audio Technica is a company renowned for it's phono cartridges and dj turntables so probably a good choice. If it doesn't have USB though connecting it to your laptop is going to involve some sort of usb adapter/phono pre-amp combo. I'm sure somebody sells such a beast.

Well, it has a preamp built in. Maybe I just need a 3.5 plug/USB converter then? Just looked it up. Looks like the ticket. Weehoo!

Yep if you don't need a preamp that should be perfect.

Just so you know if you ever finish the first Mario Galaxy, the first game is actually quite a breeze, but the second game really amps the difficulty and challenge. Thought i'd let you know since you are not into plataformers and you get frustrated with them easily.

Hum. . . Maybe I'll start the first one first then.

The Mario Galaxy games are so good. I hope you like it. I assume you wrote a blog about this playlist. Must've missed it. I'll go back and check. Sounds like a good idea though.

Interesting list. Lot of great stuff on here that could keep you busy for a long time lol. But have you never played Metroid Prime?! That's my favorite game ever. You need to drop everything and play that right now O_O

I've played it several times. Just never finished it.

Though I didn't care for the 1st game much, I still want to pick up SMG2.

The price hasn't moved much for SMG2. It's still $30.

Many of Nintendo's games don't drop much lower than $30, which is frustrating.

is their an actual difference from recording a vinyl to an mp3 than just a basic mp3 rip right off the internet? I've always wondered if it was worth the trouble. Moreso seeing how much of a hassle it is just to rip a CD these days

Just the scratchiness you get from dings in the vinyl. Vinyl is supposed to have a little bit richer bass sound too. It is a hassle. I don't know why I keep going back to it, but it's fun to look at the album covers.
