Welcome to my day in game world.
I took my Wii over to my friend's place and played Super Mario Galaxy all afternoon. This is a really great game. I loved the space theme. Most of the levels were really fun. Exceptions were as follows: There was one level called Sweet Sweet Galaxy that drove me crazy. You run across surfaces with different shaped holes in them and have to swipe stars with the wiimote at the same time. I got to the first save point, but used up all my lives after that. Then there was Flipswitch Galaxy, which really got to me. You have to run across plates that switch colors as you pass them. You don't want to hit a plate more than once, or you'll switch it back. This means you have to find the correct path by trial and error. I got killed a bunch and jumped out before I used up all my lives. Aside from those two Galaxies though, I didn't have much problem with the rest and was able to keep moving forward in the game. I needed a break after Bowser Jr.'s Airship Armada though. Platformers are tiring.
Then it was Minecraft on Xbox 360 the rest of the night. I jumping in Mark's world and started doing my usual digging and looking for lava. I eventually was questing for diamons and found some but then fell in the lava again. It was a lot of time lost, and a lot of resources burned to nothing. I figured, either I'm going to be much more careful, or do something completely different. I did something completely different.
I looked at the achievement list and started knocking off easy ones like killing a creeper with arrows and filling a box with 1,723 cobblestone. That number is exactly the size of your inventory and also the size of a small chest. You just collect 64 cobblestone in each of the 27 spots in your inventory and dorp them all in an empty box. Bing! Chievo. Then I went after what I thought was an easy one: place a flower pot. The flower pot is made of brick and I didn't know how to make brick. I could've just put every type of stone in the furnace, but I looked it up to save time. I discovered I needed clay, which is found at the bottom of large bodies of water. Luckily, that stuff is right off the shore in the shallows, so it wasn't difficult.
Along the way I tamed some dogs with bones and had them follow me whereever I went. At night they were pretty useful as I had to do things like shoot a Creeper with arrows and try and hit a skeleton from 50 yards away. I marked it out, and that is a long distance. I didn't get that one.
Then I mated two cows with wheat. They made an adorable little calf. I saw the poor thing get hurt on a cactus later on.
Finally, I went for the achievement to dye wool every color possible, which is 16. I got about 8 of them before we had to stop for the night. There's one ingredient that'll be tough to get. It's Ink and it comes from a squid in the ocean. Mark says it's not hard to find them and kill them. He spent his time making a diamond sword and enchanting it to level 7. There's an achievement for doing 9 hearts of damage with one swipe. He was going for that.
So that was Minecraft. I left Mark's place thinking of how to build a tower to shoot arrows from, marking out the 50 yard distance, and enchanting a bow. Darn how this game gets in your head and won't let you stop thinking about it.
