My '95 Music

Here's my list of albums I heard back in '95.

I always liked the Candlebox song Left Behind on their album Lucy. It has one of my favorite guitar solos on it.

King Crimson's new album Thrak was a favorite of mine. It had the widest range of sound of any rock album; from very low lows to extreme highs. I know guitar player and leader Robert Fripp wanted to cover the same range of sound as an orchestra and I think he might have done it on this album. I just love the extreme low end on this album. Really great!

No Doubt had that song Just a Gril and I couldn't help but like it's energy.

Ozzy had a catchy track in Perry Mason on Ozzmosis and, when I listened to the whole album, I found that it was pretty great all the way through.

The Presidents of the United States were one of my favorite bands that year. The guitar player played with three strings and the bass player played with two. LOVE IT! I actually wanted to change my bass to having only two strings. That was kind of difficult to do correctly, so I just played on the lower two strings for a while. I love having to move up and down the fret board a lot. I always say, music is like a sport to me, and the more active it is the better.

Primus's album Tales from the Punchbowl had one of my favorite songs of theirs, Southbound Pachyderm. They did a claymation music video that was totally rad as well.

My favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers album is One Hot Minute even though it's sort of not considered a true Peppers album since Dave Navarro is on guitar instead of John Frusciante, but I like it better for it's slightly harder edge. Every song is great on this album, but Warped is what got me to buy it when I heard that on the radio. I still remember where I was when I firist heard that song.

One of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs, 1974, was on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

Spacehog's song In the Meantime was really cool. It had a great bass line that I learned at the time. I think I can still play it today, it's so clear in my mind right now; loved that Rickenbacher bass he played in the music video too.

This was the peak of White Zombie with their hit song More Human than Human. It was in movies and all over the radio. I like the music videoes for this band. Rob Zombie used to do set design on Pee Wee's Playhouse and you can see that in his music videos. It's very influenced by German expressionism, and I'm all over that stuff.

I have 53 albums on my list for '95. Lots of stuff I've never heard before and want to badly. I searched the libraries and record stores today and gathered what I could. I have 13 of them now and I'll add one more tomorrow.

I love "Left Behind" as well as "You" by Candlebox. Definitely remember those from radio.

I need to listen to more King Crimson, since I only know "21st Century Schizoid Man," which I first heard via a reference in Bad Religion's "21st Century Digital Boy" and then I heard the sample in Kanye West's "Power" after listening to the original.

I found Tragic Kingdom for $5 at Target in 2012 when I was starting to date someone. Appropriate, since Gwen Stefani probably made me realize I like girls in that "Don't Speak" video when I was little and I always found that song sexy for some reason.

Never heard "Perry Mason" or the Osmosis album.

When I was a Station Manager, one DJ loved the song "Peaches" by Presidents of the United States of America. I didn't know about the two/four string thing until Danny Avidan mentioned it on Game Grumps. The song I remember coming around on after initially not liking it was "Lump."

I should give Primus another chance. Never got into them, but maybe I haven't heard the right songs?

Interesting you like One Hot Minute the most, since it's most RHCP fan's least favorite. Only song I remember hearing from it is "Aeroplane." Never saw the music video until just now looking it up. Interesting ..

I dig Smashing Pumpkins in general. Think it's "1979" though. As in since you seem to love bass, you should check out the band Death From Above 1979.

Never really noticed the bass in "In the Meantime," but I always loved the guitar and general feel of that song.

I definitely remember thinking the woman at the start of "More Human Than Human" was in pain and not what I realized she was when I got older. lol

Favorite Presidents song is Boll Weevil. Oh yea, 1979. Whoops. I got a thing for '74 'cause a lot of cool prog stuff I liked in High School came out that year (I was in HS in '84 though).

Oh there is so much High School in this list. No Doubt: LOVE their big radio album. They were always on MTV. If you get bored check YouTube for USC Trojan Marching Band version of Spiderwebs. I like their version. As for the actual album Sunday Morning was one of my favorites and the beginning to the title track is the announcement Disneyland plays in the Matterhorn queue.

Smashing Pumpkins was the album that I think everyone was listening to in high school. I wasn't a fan but I liked some of the radio friendly songs. I really dug the beginning of Tonight Tonight.

More Human Than Human was on one of my last mixtapes before I went with my Discman full time. Loved that song!

I never really got fully on the Smashing Pumpkins bandwagon. I just liked songs 1979 and Frail and Bedazzled a lot.

I remember the rest of that album was just so so though. Too bad, 'cause that song is great.

I'm not as much into the Chilli Peppers as I used to be, but I to have agree "One Hot Minute" was probably one of the best if not the best thing they ever did.

I kind of burned myself out on Primus years ago, but I have been digging them out and playing them at work lately. All I have at the momment is Seas of Cheese & Pork Soda. I need to get Tales from the Punchbowl again.

Sadly Meloncholly was when I stareted to lose interest in the Pumpkins. I liked the older stuff better.

A lot of really good music came out that year.

Same here with the Pumpkins. I did grab a bunch of the more recent Pumpkins stuff from the library, just because. I'll listen to that and see what's what.

Yeah, I picked up Zietgiest when it came out like 7 or 8 years ago. It was not bad, just more of the same. i guess my tastes have evolved. I need to see what my library has. Have not been in there in a while.
