First thing today I went to Gamestop and traded in Gat out of Hell and bought a second copy of Sacred 3 for my friend Mark. The saleswoman told me about Until Dawn and how the game figures out what isn't scaring you and then changes to try and scare you more. Games are getting smart. I gotta watch out for that. Then I had a breakfast bagel (egg and cheese on a rye bagel) and coffee on my way over to Mark's place for gaming.

I was going to start Sacred 3 right off, but, I thought, maybe I could do some things in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. I did that until lunch playing my Gunslinger character up to level 18. I had fun managing my equipment, which is a major part of this game. I still couldn't get it right for boss fights. I did fine with side missions and against all common foes, but when I got to the Robot Factory boss, I got stuck. I probably could've beat it if I had stayed iwth it longer, but I got fed up and ran out of there to do some side missions and work on an achievment for freezing three foes and then stomping them to pieces. I got two and really close to three but no go. I looked for foes that might be easy to do this with like Kragons and those bug-like creatures but I kept killing them instead of freezing them. It works best on humans and robots, especially robots because they tend to clump together as opposed to the humans who stay spread out and move fast. I'll get it eventually.

Then I ate Chinese for lunch. I had my usual martial arts aciton dish of Kung Pow Chicken and an egg roll. I gave Mark his copy of Sacred 3 and we both booted up the game to play co-op. We played it the rest of the night, getting about 2/3rds through the game. Sacred 3 is very much like Gauntlet or a lesser Diablo III. The story is forgetable but the voice work is full of humor and typical over-the-top fantasy drivel. The main villain sounds very much like The Monarch from Venture Brothers. The graphics aren't bad when you're playing but the backdrops and cut scenes are mostly static images layered on top of each other like you might see in a downloadable, more casual game, or TellTale game. It clearly didn't have the budget of a Diablo. Still the action is pretty and explosive and runs smooth as silk, and that's the important part. Levels are pretty much linear: fight some hoards and then fight a boss. It's all very simple but fun. You can level up several different abilities and weapons as you go and the controls for them are well implemented. I think this game will go by quickly. After six hours or so we're definitely over half way finished. There are achievements though and a few dlc missions, so we'll see how much time I get out of this.

During the last few hours of gaming, I ate some microwave popcorn and several cups of hot chocolate with marshmallows. I was due for a meal but I decided to wait until I got home. At home I made some Amy's Tai Coconut soup and drank some Fentleman's Ginger Beer. Now I'll go back to researching media in 1999.

I think I'm not going to use my computer during the week so I can get some gaming done and exercise. I may check in on a library computer to read any blogs and comments that come up, but I'm trying to push my computer time to the weekend right now. I'll have to post something about 1999 though, but maybe I'll finish that tonight and publish it during the week sometime. Anyway, good night until next time.

Didn't know that was a feature of Until Dawn. Wasn't really as excited for it upon learning it was a QTE game, but since I haven't had a good scare in so long that makes it more interesting.

She told me that the game can tell if you react to a jump scare by the way you move the analog stick. She said she's doesn't flinch with jump scares so the game gave her more QTEs because she wasn't as good at those.

That's interesting that you are going to try and avoid the computer for a week. I tried it for a day because the FiOS was down but I ended up using my phone to keep tabs on what was happening on Twitter.

Well, it hasn't worked yet. I had to rip the rest of my CDs today. Maybe tomorrow.
