Gears Judgment

I said Mark and I would be deep into Gears of War: Judgment, and so we were. It was an all day session today. We beat the game, and right away started a second playthrough to gather the remaining cog collectibles and play through all the levels on Normal difficulty. It's all about the achievements now and trying new things in the game.

Gears of War: Judgement is almost exactly like Gears 3 in almost every way. It plays the same, the enemies are the same, the stat tracking is the same, and it looks just as good, if not better. One difference is levels are much shorter as is the entire campaign. We finished it in probably seven hours, but replayability is very high. It amazes me how well the control scheme is laid out and how well it all works. After playing a bunch of similar shooters from an earlier time, this is positively genius; although, I struggle to figure out just why. It may be how the functions are laid out on the controler, and how that feels during gameplay. It just feels so intuitive and good to play. Another difference is that the story centers around Baird and his team. It's a flashback story similar to the one told in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. It's nothing special really. It's all about the gameplay in Gears anyway.

I was initially all about bull rushing the enemy with my Retro Lancer bayonette for Execution kills, but after a while, I got into sniping and did a lot of that. I also love the mortar, when I can find one. Mark is all about getting in close and using the biggest most destructive weapon possible. It became a good combo for me to mostly hang back and snipe while he went in close. I racked up a lot of kills with my Markza sniper rifle. I got a medal and wore it, but I'm still into the Retro Lancer. My two weapons, most of the time, were the Retro Lancer and the Markza sniper rifle.

i'm sure this game will take up my gaming time next weekend, but we'll see if it'll last past that. I haven't tried Hoard mode (called Survival mode here) yet, and there are probably some achievements that may take some time.

I only rented Judgement, but as someone who was very satisfied with all three Gears titles, it bored me to tears. Something about the enemy encounters were just not as fun as 1-3.

I did notice the battle areas were mostly very small and they end pretty quickly.

I downloaded it last month but haven't played it yet. I still need to play through the first Gears game. I have all of them except 2, and didn't have to pay for any of them. The first one I got back when Club Bing was still in existence, and 3 and Judgement were both Games With Gold titles.

That's good. They are all good games. I just noticed I got Gears of War Ultimate Edition with my Xbox One.

I'm looking forward to playing Gears Judgment again when I get my free copy via the Ultimate edition. I didn't care for the campaign, but Horde/Survival mode is always the best.

It comes with Gears Ultimate. Is that just the boxed copy? I got a download code for Gears Ultimate with my Xbox One, but I didn't notice Judgment at all. Maybe it's accessible from within Gears Ultimate?

Most likely, so long as you play your copy before December 31. It's not accessible from Gears Ultimate they will send out codes. I hear they give you the codes for the games on December 1.

The Gears series was one of those "must haves" when I bought the 360, but I haven't gotten around to actually playing through the series. Since I finished one game earlier in the week, I should give this series a go.

I avoided the series at first, but then one summer I gave them a go, and was really impressed. I played through 1 and 2 and then Mark and I played 3 and didn't stop with that one for like three months. Hoard Mode was endlessly fun to play co-op.
