It was pretty much all about games and films this year for me. I got so into games, I started blogging at 1UP. I wasn't sure how it was going to go, but clearly I got hooked. Five years later, and I haven't stopped. I guess I'll do another five.
MUSIC:
Honestly, not much for me this year, but I could mention a few musical things. First was the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I came out of that movie in such a high. It was basically a movie-musical. I got the soundtrack later and got turned on to several new bands like Blood Red Shoes. Then there was the musical pair, Paul & Storm. They do accoustic songs that are humerous and often about geeky stuff. I hadn't listened to their first album that came out this year, but I was listening to their podcast. Now I'd like to get some of their albums and see what I missed. Finally there's the obligatory Halo soundtrack. This one for Halo: Reach. For some reason, I don't have it, and so maybe I didn't listen to it outside of the game. I'll have to remedy that along with the Bioshock 2 soundtrack.
GAMES
Some memories from this year in games: Some disappointment in Crackdown 2 on Xbox 360, although I still liked it a lot. Swimming and taking photos in the ocean in Endless Ocean: Blue World on Wii. Excitment over Epic Mickey and its promise, and then hideous disappointment over its wonky camera. Liking Fable III, but wondering if it was really a RPG anymore. Surprise over the fun remake of Goldeneye 007 on Wii. Enjoying renting Lunar Silver Star Harmony on PSP and beating it. Getting Okami sequel Okamiden on DS day-one, but wishing it was a full console game. Getting to play Plants Vs. Zombies on console when it came to Xbox Live Arcade. It was on PC at least a year before and I couldn't wait to play it. Crying over the ending to Professor Layton and the Unwound Future on DS. It's amazing the impact a story has after you've been in its world for 25 hours or so. Finally, getting so excited for the release of Valkyria Chronicles II on PSP, and much like Okamiden, wishing it was a console game.
BOOKS
I was reading a lot of stuff then, but not anything that was released in 2010. I didn't see anything from this year I'd really like to read either except for Mary Holland's Naturally Curious, a book about nature Rangergirl mentioned once.
FILM
I saw a lot of movies in the theater this year. Some more memorable ones were: How to Train Your Dragon. I saw that in 3D and was really impressed with it. Later, my nephew was really into the TV show, and I was interested in hearing him get all excited over the different dragons and their powers. Jonah Hex. Not a great movie at all, but I was really into the comics at the time and got very excited about the movie. I still enjoyed it though. Kick-Ass was a lot of fun. I didn't enjoy the sequel years later though. Machete, a Rodriguez film, was silly but a lot of fun. It started as just a jokey trailer for one of his other movies. It got a sequel years later that was also fun. Scott Pilgrim Vs the World, I've already mentioned. I loved The A-Team. It was just the right amount of over-the-top action and humor. I really dug it. The Wolfman and True Grit both got my vote for being some seriously beautiful looking films. True Grit had a much better story to go with it, but visuals usually trump everything for me.
And that be 2010, mateys. Yar!
