In poking around the internet for more games set in the 17th century, I came across this winning submission to the British Library's annual "Off the Map" videogame design competition (http://www.bl.uk/projects/off-the-map) by six students calling themselves Puddling Lane Productions (http://puddinglanedmuga.blogspot.com/). It's a 3D render of 17th century London before The Great Fire of 1666 destroyed it all. Here's the video:

This video apparently won't just play right here. Well, there's the link anyway.

The design was done with the Crytek engine. Crytek was also a part sponsor of the competition. Doesn't it look great! I want to virtually walk around this space full of AI people as it might have been back then. Come to think of it, it looks a bit like the Fable games, which makes sense now that I've read about The Great Fire of London. It destroyed the medieval part of the city and the Fable games are in a kind of faux medieval England or older. The games call the land Albion, which is the ancient name used for the island of Great Britain.

There should be more of these for other historical places all over the world that you can walk around in and interact with.

wow that's pretty crazy.  And 800 thousand views!  That must have taken a lot of work to build man.

I imagine in the future, there will be more virtual places to visit like this, that don't necessarily involve a game but that you can just explore....

Albion was what the ancient Greeks called Britain.

Reminds me a bit of Ether One.
