Disney Infinity 2.0: Power Discs

Today I found all the power discs I needed for achievements in Disney Infinity 2.0 in two 2-packs at GameStop and BestBuy. They are unique among the power discs because they have new levels on them.

I played with the Assault on Asgard and Escape from The Kyln discs today. These came with the Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes starter pack. Each have substantial gameplay on them that is a little different from the rest of the game and have story elements that fill in some of what was left out of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy play sets.

Assault on Asgard is a tower defense style game. You play in third person with a Marvel character and set traps to ward off enemies that stream in to attack objects set in protective energy shields. You can fight yourself, and you can call in friends to play with you. I got to world four of eight when I got stuck, but not before unlocking the achievement for laying a certain number of traps. I’ll wait for Mark to get his disc so we can tackle it co-op.

Escape from the Kyln is a top-down action RPG like Diablo. You are escaping the prison  like in the movie. Here you have tiny sidekicks that help you out that have their own stats for attack, defense and finding things. I got two achievements associated with them . I played about four of the eight or so levels.

Within the hub area of Escape from the Kyln, there is an Exploration Survival Mode where you fight on randomly created levels that get progressively more difficult. I got to level 30 of 50 before I accidently exited the game. The timer was over 2 hours. My next to last achievement is associated with completing all 50 levels. I can’t wait for Mark to get his copy of the power disc so we can play this co-op (yes, both players have to have a disc on their portal to play together). I liked that I could use any Marvel character. When one got killed, I put another one on the portal to continue, much like Skylanders.

I didn’t get to the Stitch and Brave power discs, and I discovered that I don’t really need them for any achievements like I thought. I’m cool with it though. New levels are the best. I’ll play them just to experience the new content.

Incidentally, I was listening to Henry Purcell all during February and heard this Rondeau from Abdelazer and thought it sounded like perfect RPG video game music. If you did an 8-bit version of this with a little more speed and bombast, it would be perfect. I almost think I’ve played some RPG that used this tune, but probably not.

When I first got Disney Infinity 1.0 to review, I got a couple of those power disc things to see what they did.  I got a Fix-It Felix one (refill health automatically) and a Scrooge McDuck one (more money), so I thought that was cool.

Yea, I like the "event" ones that cause environmental effects. Like one of them causes a bunch of lightning that does damage to enemies. I'll try them out this weekend for sure.

I almost picked up the Infinity portal thing Sunday but I did not like the condition of the piece. I will look around for a better looking one. Yes, I am crazy like that, lol.

They're so cheap. I got mine at Gamestop for $3.

it's nice there's different types of gameplay.

I'm going to listen to some Purcell soon, you've inspired me.

Yea, it's interesting to have a single game that has several game genres within it.
