I wish there were more FPS like Serious Sam, just silly and over the top, and less war simulators like CoD.
Sky Shark, Disney Infinity and Serious Sam

I revisited an old arcade favorite in reduced form on console, finished Disney Infinity 1.0 and got back to good 'ol blood and guts FPS action. But first, a picture of my D.I. 3.0 figure I got today:
I have two other figures I'd like to get from 3.0: Boba Fett and Chewbacca.
i started out with a short backlog game, Sky Shark on NES. This is a port, really a very weak translation, of a great arcade game i played back in '87. It's a vertically scrolling shooter. You play as a WWI flying ace and have to shoot airplanes with bullets and ground targets with bombs. I was thinking today how I really like the vertically scrolling arcade games. Whether they are flying games like Xevious or 1943, or racing games like Spy Hunter, or on foot combat games like Front Line, I really dig that style. Well, this Sky Shark (also called Flying Shark in Europe) on NES is a pretty poor substitute for the arcade game. There's lots of flickering enemies, and it plays very unfair. The d-pad is a horrible way to control your plane. It's just not quick or accuate enough to compensate for all the bullet hell you have to deal with. Ah, well, I'll keep this cart around for memory's sake.
Then it was back to Disney Infinity 1.0. I pretty much hit a wall in the Toy Box trying to figure out the best way to power level. I looked up some strategies and tried a few, but what worked best was linking two teleporters together and putting one very high up above the ground. Then you get in a vehicle, teleport to the top and jump off, doing stunts all the way down. Nail the landing and you get a nice bunch of XP. I got my Barbarosa from 11 to 13 before this got pretty boring, so I started working on getting Feats (mini challenges), hoping I'd level up along the way. Well, I didn't much. I got a lot of Feats and unlocked a few more achievements, but I finally gave up on leveling 3 characters to level 15. There just wasn't anything left to do but dull repetition of missions, endless stunt driving, and running through a lot of interesting but pretty short user created levels. If it stops being fun just stop, I say, and I did. It was a fun 50 hours or so in that game. I can't wait to pick up 3.0 sometime later this year.
Then I played some Terraria and couldn't even build a house. I had lots of wood but the game wouldn't let me use it. Maybe I missed something, but I got stuck and gave up. Then I played some Halo: Spartan Assault. This game locks all the good weapons behind a pay wall. That's no fun. Then finally I started Serious Sam 3 HD and started to like games again. This is a bit of an upgrade in game engine to the previous Serious Sam games, but still way behind present day interactive worlds. Still, I could pull a guys heart out and get blown to bits by suicide bombers. I was really getting into the FPS groove when the night ended.
And that's my day and end of week. Time to get back to work and stop fooling around. But I'll be thinking of chaining dozens of screaming mad bombers together in one bloody explosion all week.
