Super Mario Land, Sacred 3, EDF 2025 and Nova Game

I started today with a backlog game, Super Mario Land for Game Boy played on my TV via the Gamecube's Game Boy Player. Handheld games sure look nice on the big screen. Well, I'm not much of a platformer fan. My favorite was Donkey Kong Country and maybe Klonoa and that's about it for platformers I've played for more than an hour at a time. I played some of Super Mario Land and it occured to me this is like the best game for a kid. Remember being on the playground and trying to see if you could climb to the top of the jungle gym? Kids are always trying to test what they can do in the world. Super Mario Land is just that. You run, you jump and you see what you can do. So, I admire the game but I dislike repeating the same levels over and over. I did notice that I seem to have lost my memory card for my Gamecube. I wonder where that went, but I'll have to get another one pronto.

So then I got back to Sacred 3, and Mark and I worked on achievements most of the afternoon until we'd gotten pretty much all that we could do. We both got to the level cap of 50, and I got every character specific achievement. No one was in the online lobby today, so there wasn't much chance of getting a four player game together. Ah well, I guess I'm done with this game for the time being. When Mark gets the rest of the DLC, I'll go back to it for a couple more achievements.

Then I booted up EDF 2025 to see what I could do. I've already logged in over a hundred hours in this game last year, but I had only gotten a fifth of the achievements. This time I played solo as the Ranger playing on Normal to complete the game. I'd left off at level 40 and did several more levels today. I forgot how fun this game is. I just wrecked house the rest of the night, shooting alien ships out of the sky and watching them crash land on city buildings.

While I was doing this, Mark was watching the Villanova/North Carolina college basketball finals. I watched in between blowing things up and stopped playing EDF for the last five minutes. What a finale! I've never seen so many three point shots taken in a basketball game, and it ended with a three point shot duel in the final seconds. It was something else. I live a town over from Villanova and there was a huge crowd outside the school blocking traffic on my way home from Mark's place.

Well that's about it. Back to the work week and some occasional 3DS gaming. Next week I might start up Destiny again and get the rest of the DLC. We'll see.

I remember whem brother got Super Mario Land shortly after recieving his Game Boy as a middle school graduation gift. I always thought Mario Land was pretty good. But I remember being disappointed that Fire flower shots didn't work the same way they did in Super Mario Bros. Otherwise, I enjoyed Mario Land.

I've always heard good things about it. I keep going over why I dislike most plaformers, and I think it's just having to go back to the beginning every time you die. I really hate that.

I'm just glad you mentioned Klonoa.

I love the presentation of that game, the art and the attempt at 3D. They call it 2.5D. It's unique.

Love Klonoa. I have the original and the Wii remake. Did you ever play Pandemonium?

No, I haven't. Cool, a Toys for Bob game. It's going on the list. Thanks.
