Monday I had to truck Mark over to the doctor and so I had some time to kill in the waiting room. I brought my DS and played some Contra 4. This game looks great. Makes me think of Contra III Alien Wars on SNES that I played years ago. You have a grappling hook that can move you up to the upper screen on the DS. That mechanic was pretty cool. The game plays great too, but it's darn hard, as most of the Contra games are. I could stand it only a little while, so I took a gander at what else I had on my old DS. I hadn't used it in quite a while. I found Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition there. I think it was given away free at the 30th anniversary of Zelda and I must've grabbed it. Well I dug in again and got really into it. You can play it solo and just switch back and forth between two characters. You solve puzzles and fight Zelda style. It was fun and it took up the time I had to wait, which wasn't all that long it turned out. I wanted to keep playing it. I put it on my backlog list just now. I think I forgot I had it. So I'll dig into it for real sometime in the future.

Then it was back to Mark's place and Gears of War Ultimate on XBO. Mark and I played co-op and we got the achievement for closing four e-holes on this one level before the grubs could come out. Then we played the whole game again on Normal difficulty trying to get 10 clusterluck kills. This is three kills at once. You need those hard to find grenades or use a Hammer of Dawn or Boomshot. Grenades are easiest but it turned out to not be that easy. I got to 9 by the time we finished the whole game again. You don't often get a lot of enemies coming at you at once and when you do, they are good at spreading out and trying to flank you. The best way is to spot an e-hole opening up and drop a grenade nearby just as the grubs are coming out of it. This is not always easy though because the e-holes often open in places not all that close to you, or so quickly that you lose the opportunity to strike. Anyway, it was fun to run through the whole game again. Normal difficulty is not that hard really. I think I could take it on Hardcore for sure, but I think I'll move on for now. I've got so much else to get to.

Then I went back to Crystal Defenders because I only had a few hours left in the night. I discovered two more modes in the game that give you more maps. I started the second set of maps and tried to get to at least wave 25. I didn't quite get there. These maps are a little harder and they give you a few more options such as power gems and new characters to play with. I enjoy finding just the right spots on the map for my characters and then seeing how they deal with the waves of enemies. But, I don't know how much longer I can play this.

Next weekend I have The Order 1886 up next for PS4. I'll start with that right away. I can't wait to check that out.

I played a demo of Contra 4.  It was really hard, so I didn't get the game.  It was made by WayForward, though, which is cool.

I love the Zelda Four Swords Anniversary Edition!  What's cool is that after you beat the main quest, you can play extra level maps based on Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, and the original NES Zelda!  It's awesome.

If you are on a 3DS multiplayer kick, you should download Gotta Protectors.  Only one person needs a copy of the game, and the rest can join via download play.  It's easy to do and fast, and the game is fantastic!

Wayforward is really great. I always perk up when I hear a game has been made by them.

Good to hear about Zelda 4 Swords. I can't wait to get some more time with it.

I never got into Gears of War. I don't know why. My brother was into the early ones, I think he's moved on though. We tried to play co-op but he had already played through the game, so the magic wasn't there and he was impatient with me exploring and not knowing what I was doing.

Yea, Mark and I got into them at the same time and we've played all of them co-op from the start. In every game we co-op though, I'm always the explorer and he's the guy who plows ahead for more action. Sometimes that is a problem.

I can completely relate.

It's gotten a little crazy lately. Shouting matches and just obnoxious behavior. I've tried to curtail that a little bit. Things could get ugly, but mostly it's done in good spirit. I can only imagine how brutal it might get if I was into competitive multiplayer. <shudder>
