I saw Kubo and the Two Strings the other day, Saturday. I really liked it. Lovely papercraft Japanese art style and lots of good messages not handled in a corny way. I didn't realize the film maker was the same who did Box Trolls. Now I really regret not seeing that one when it was in the theaters. I was so close to seeing it too.
I also played about 3 hours of Dragon Quest VII. Later I was watching film trailers for movies from 1981 and saw Clash of the Titans. This film seems to have a similar plot as the beginning of DQVII. You have to gather pieces of a set of armor and weapon from some legendary, long dead, hero. Well, I just got into the first battles in the third hour. I don't mind though. The story is interesting and I love exploring the world and, of course, smashing barrels.
The music is great, the visuals are great in that old style with sprite characters. I'm loving it. I only stopped playing it because I wanted to update my long dormant 3DS and check out the new Mii Plaza games. I got the Slot Car racer one for free. It's really neat! Race your cars, customize them, and win new ones. There are lots of tracks to unlock as well. I hope I get some street passes in the next few weeks.
Then on Sunday I played more Minecraft. I played an Ultra Hardcore world. I figured out you can use golden apples to regen your health. Problem was, I had trouble finding apples. They drop from certain trees like Oaks but on an infrequent basis. I decided to burn a whole forest down to get some. I got Mark to join in telling him he could let his inner pyro out. He usually doesn't like ultra hardcore worlds, but this he couldn't resist. Thing is, by the time I had the iron for the flint and steel to start fires, I was down to 2.5 hearts - I'd fell a few times and been nearly blown up by a creeper. So when we started lighting up trees, I made the mistake of backing into one of them and poof! I was dead. No respawns is my rule so after the longest ultra hardcore run ever, 2 hours, I exited.
Then we did the usual easy world and I tried to find apples just for fun. I couldn't find any. I must've burned several forests of Oaks and not one. Then I was fighting a creeper and it blew up a tree and there was an apple. What the heck! That's the trouble with randomization. You can't depend on it.
Anywho, now I'm trying to figure out if there's more diamonds under mountains or not. Logic says yes, but who knows what's in that algorithm Notch made. I'll try to find out though.
Bye!
