New Halo Book Reading

Every year, around the holidays, I go looking to see what new Halo books have been published. In 2016 I got a few and just finished the first one, Halo: New Blood by Matt Forbeck.

This one was about gunnery sergeant Edward Buck (he's an ODST). It's told from his point of view. You get to hear about the various missions he went on. One was basically the story of Halo: 3 ODST. He's the team leader for the character you play in the game and all your team mates play a large role in this book. Buck is in a lot of the Halo games, I found out, voiced and designed to look like Nolan North. Buck goes on other missions fighting insurrectionists, bringing with it all the controversy that involves. He also gets an opportunity to join a special branch of the UNSC, but I won't spoil that part.

I think the book was well written. My only gripe is that it jumps around alot in time making for a little bit of confusion. Maybe that was due to the way I read it, though, a chapter at a time and not every day.

I'm reading the other book I bought, Halo Fractures, right now. It's a collection of short stories written by all different writers. I'll get into that once I finish it. It got me to pick up Halo 5 because I still haven't played that one and some of the stories reference that game.

I don't know what games I've played I'd be into the lore enough to buy books for, but it's cool that stuff like this exists.

I read a couple EU Star Wars books as a kid, but I don't remember them well.

There's like whole books to read within the game of Skyrim. In my few hours with the game, I started reading them and was amazed at how much content there was. Whole books in there! Not sure if I'm that interested in that game's lore though. I liked Oblivion but didn't want to know much more about the story. Just liked the world to roam in.

I think that's cool that they are expanding the Halo Universe with books just to continue with various storylines. If you are a Halo fan Hot Wheels released the Warthog in this year's line of cars.

My friend Mark just called me today to tell me about that. I'll be keeping my eye out for them. Apparently Toys R Us has them but I hope Gamestop carries them because I'm there more often. 5 Below has some Matchbox cars too. Maybe?

Halo, for me ended after the first game. The games that followed just weren't interesting or capture the feeling of the first Halo. Anyways, I've been reading a bunch of comic books, I just finished reading Old Man Logan, All New Wolverine and the Vision. VIsion Vol.1: Little Worse Than Man was amazing.

The excitement certainly ebbed for me after the first game, but I like the universe they created. It's sort of my Star Wars for the 21st century.

I would love to get back into comics.

Like Joe, I haven't really found a game I'm into enough to read books about. But then again, I never got into all the Star Wars books, either.

I read one of the Thrawn Star Wars books not too long ago. I don't know, like the Mass Effect book I read, I didn't really take to it. I dont' know what it is about Halo. Maybe because Mark and I played it so much and that first game had such a dramatic ending - ends in a big boom like the first Star Wars.

I had one or two Star Wars books as a kid, but mostly cause they caught my eye in the books and magazines sections while I searched for EGM.

Btw, all I could get out of my roommate was "south Maine."
