the envy is definitely with me.
I could never get into borderlands, but I tried to play it when I was burned out on shooters, which I kind of still am, seven or so years later. Weird.

My weapons package in Borderlands 2 failed miserably today. First, I couldn't finish off Captain Scarlett's big, ultimate beast, and then I started getting knocked down by lower level minibeasts from the main game. I couldn't stop them from putting me on my knees, making me gasp for my second wind. Sometimes I'd get back in there, and sometimes not. It was so frustrating, I almost gave up for good.
My strategy was to use my turret a lot and then get behind it and snipe. My sniper rifle was powerful but had a small magazine size and hideous reload speed. This meant that as soon as my turret was finished its work, I would be caught reloading and get overrun by these suicidal, screaming beasties.
So I took a moment to vent and rethink my strategy. I respecified my skill tree to emphasize turret power and picked a fast shooting SMG as my main weapon. Then I ran people over, fast and hard. It was the only way to keep those screamers from knocking me down. Sometimes the SMG wasn't enough, though, and that's when I reached for the turret. And boy was this new turret something else! It slagged and launched rockets at every moving thing. It was amazing. It was better than I was! I started looking at it in a new light, a green light, green with envy. I started using it less and putting it in reserve for emergencies, ashamed of my own lack of power.
For the remainder of my game session, I just worked the bullet hose SMG until my shield went down, and then, reluctantly, resorted to the turret. I stood back and watched several times in awe. Then, when I had to stop for the night, I ran to my gold key loot chest in Sanctuary and wished for a bigger SMG. No turret is going to out perform me!
I'll play some tomorrow, most likely. I'm level 42 now and working on finishing the main story for the second time. I figure, I'll finish the main story on True Vault Hunter difficulty, tackle the Captain Scarlett final boss again, and then try and finish all the other DLCs. Then it's on to Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
May the envy be with you.
It has a lot to offer in the exploration, story, and looting front. Sometimes the shooting really frustrates me. The game seems to adjust difficulty from mission to mission and it can suddenly make gameplay really difficult. It seems to work best in that first playthrough of the main story. It was only when I upped the difficulty and jumped around to different parts of the game that it got unpredictable.
Have you used any of the keys that Borderlands gives away codes for on their Twitter account to get some stronger weapons? One of my favorite strategies is being a bit cheesy where I would find a spot where I can use the sniper rife from a distance where it takes a while for the enemy to attack me, shot, cover, shoot, cover, and if they get close retreat to a place where it bottlenecks and take out the bad guys one at a time.
