Loot Doggin' It

That's what I was doing today in Borderlands 2, or, at least in the second half of the day. The first half was me playing the main campaign again and getting super frustrated with it. Then I had Mark jump in the game and we finished the Mr. Torque DLC and began the Sir Hammerlock DLC. That part became fun. Here's some more detail.

The first half of the day, I replayed most of the main campaign on True Vault Hunter difficulty. It was fine until about 3/4 the way to the end and then the enemies started getting higher level and it became harder and harder to proceed. I was skipping most of the side missions, so maybe I wasn't leveled up enough for those missions. It's weird how this game scales difficulty. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it seems to work against you unless you play like a completionist.

The second half of the day, I decided to let Mark join my game and I jumped to the Mr. Torque DLC to finish that. He was level 52, I was level 44; so he was overpowered, while I was slightly underpowered. I followed in his wake of destruction picking up loot drops like a dog, a loot dog. It's fine. I got to explore a lot and found some more Vault Symbols. Discovering them fufills a challenge and getting them all unlocks an achievement, I believe. They're super hard to find, though. Most of them time I find them by accident.

So with me hosting at level 44 (ended the day at 48) and Mark guesting at 52 (stayed the same), I leveled fairly quickly while he didn't hardly at all. He was fine with it though because he was overpowered and he loves being overpowered. The overall mission, though, is to get our characters back to the same level so we can contribute equally to the mayhem.

Tomorrow, I want to finish the Sir Hammerlock DLC and then the Tiny Tina one to complete the main story content. I'm skipping most of the side missions. Doing that makes the story much more comprehensible. Usually, doing all the side missions, I start to forget what the main story is, and by the end, I wonder just how I got there. This way the main story is up front and center. I'll go back to side missions, maybe with the idea of achievement hunting, later.

That's a day. Oh hey. Toodles!

Toodle you to you hoo hoo.

I just know no matter what level i am in a fighter or shooter, i won't be having any fun online when everyone is way better than i am.

Sometimes I open up the game to randos, but it makes me nervous because sometimes they are way higher level than me, or they are just better and get to everything before me.

If Red Box rents at $3 a day, and I might play 8 hours in a day, and have played B2 for 180 hours, then I've gotten something like $67.5 worth out of Borderlands 2. I played B2 first in 2014, 2 years after it came out. So I probably paid $20 for it plus DLC. So maybe another $20. That's $40. I got Handsome Collection for $20, so that adds $10. So I've paid $50 for B2 and gotten $67.5 out of it. Huh. I've saved money on buying not renting it. Definitely justified the purchase and not rental.

Interesting. So If I think I'll get more than 20 hours out of a new game, then I should buy and not rent. (20 hours at Red Box prices is $60). But then again, I use Gamefly and I calculate that cost as 20 hours for $4. I get a game a week for $15 a month, and can spend as much as 20 hours on it. So at Gamefly prices, I've gotten $36 out of it. I should've just rented from Gamefly and kept it for 9 weeks. Gee, it really does pay to rent from Gamefly even if I keep it for months. Interesting.

You have to level up. That's what I've learned from games that make me want to throw a controller.

Every time I hit a wall, I'd backtrack to level up. Got kind of frustrating grinding like that after a while though.
