Had Enough of Borderlands 2, Had Enough of Achievements

It was a snow day here in the Philadelphia area, so I played all the side missions for the Borderlands 2 DLC, or at least attempted them. Some I had trouble with, but I experienced them, and that's what matters.

Then I started redoing main campaign missions for this second playthrough to clean up the mission list and leave just the unfinished ones, but I really got tired of it all. I only gained one level out of all this gameplay today. It seems it's going to be a real grind to get to level 70. I swear this XBO version is slightly harder than the 360 version I played because at about this amount of play time, 100 hours, I was level 60 something and had finished all but two achievements: one for all challenges, and one for beating one of the super hard raid bosses. As it stands now on XBO, I'm only level 53 and have maybe a dozen achievements left. So I'm moving on.

And I think I'm done with achievements too. They push you to do every possible thing in a game, but sometimes it's just not that fun or extremely time consuming. I think I have to just avoid looking at the list for any game from now on for my own mental health. I'll enjoy getting an achievement, but I'm not going to consciously go after them any more. I think it's actually more interesting to see what achievements you get without thinking about it. It tells you a little bit about what interested you in the game. I want a more pure experience, uninfluenced by any objective but my own curiosity.

So next, in my complete play of the Borderlands series, is The Pre-Sequel. I'm going to do just what I said and avoid looking at the achievement list and just do what pleases me in the game. Then I can finally say I've revisited the entire series.

And that's a snow day.

I look at trophy lists intently too, but if there are a bunch of ultra rare trophies that sound too hard i just don't do it. The only exception may end up being rise of tomb raider, but i dunno.

I'm still hunting them in Lego marvel superhero s but i actually like that games side quests. In fact my spring break mission is to hopefully platinum that one soon.

The only other game i could think of enjoying getting platinum in is until dawn. I would just want to see all the different scenarios.

I know what you mean about finding stuff naturally. I love seeing random trophies pop up for just competing things in the game.

My least favorite trophies by far are in fighting games. Too many online-only ones which sucks if there aren't people in the lobbies ( never are for me since i buy used) and a lot of them would be way too tedious or hard to get.

Is the Pre Sequel like a TellTale game? I may play that first. I think it came in my borderlands bundle.

I always think the achievements are possible but then find they take much longer than I thought. Then I've just spent a lot of time.

Pre-Sequel is like Borderlands 2 but with even more improvements. It was done by a different dev but with Gearbox guidance. It's just as good, in my opinion, as B2, but maybe not quite as huge. The writting and voice work is just as excellent too. I think the comedy is top notch in Pre-Sequel. I really admire it.

Luckily, achievements don't have that much pull for me. The only time I'll really try to get all the achievements in the game is if I'm close to having them all by the time I finish the game. Otherwise I can't be bothered. Most of that content isn't fun and it doesn't really offer much of a reward outside of satisfaction.

Have you played PreSequel before? If so what do you think? I liked it more than 2, but still didn't finish it. I burn out of Borderlands games for some reason, and the obnoxiously over the top Aussie accents didn't help xD

I'm usually at 50% of the achievements after my first playthrough just focusing on the story. After that I look at the list to find more things to do, if the game is great.
I played Pre-Sequel when it came out on Xbox 360. I liked it a lot. I thought it had some interesting improvements and was even funnier than B2. I didn't think about the Australian accents but then it was developed by 2K Australia and every character in the game is done up in a silly over-the-top way. It made me think of Monty Python, but maybe that was the English in the Australian accent.

Trophies/Achievements are fun if you do stumble on them, but when you search for them then it changes. The ones that are managable are not too bad but certain rare or hard to find ones become a pain. The one thing I do like is the chime on the PS3, PS4 when you find one. I do like that sound, and it has become my notification sound on my phone when I recieve a text. Only drawback is when I'm playing a game on my PS4 and I hear that chime I look at my phone.

XBO has a special chime for the rarer achievements now. The rarest achievement in Borderlands 2 was the one for getting level 1 on every challenge. .73% of gamers got it. There are so many challenges in the game. I went for it the first time I played the game on X360 and gave up after a while because you have to literally use every type of weapon and do every type of weird thing possible a certain number of times to get at least level 1.

I miss snow, man.  I know you guys are getting an insane amount and you're probably sick of it... but this desert is grating on me.

Ha ha. The "desert is grating on me". I guess the desert could be pretty dull after a while. But we were supposed to get like 2 ft of snow, but it turned out to be like 4 inches of sleet. Good for me because I could get to Mark's for an all day gaming session. Thank you weather.

it does get pretty dull. I miss green trees and green... everything of the east coast / Philly area. I like the winters here and stuff, but the heat and the 8 month summer is just too much.

I like seasons but I haven't liked snow in recent years because it's been coming in these huge storms and then vanishing in a week.

I like to look at achievements to see if there are any fun ones to get.  I don't go for the hard ones.

I might do that with Borderlands Pre-Sequel. I'll just take a quick look when I finish all the content and see what I might want to try. I'm not doing any completionist type stuff this time though. Only if I'm already really close to it.

I only go for all the achievements or trophies if I'm really enjoying a game and none of them are unreasonable. I loved the new Deus Ex, for instance, but one of the trophies was for beating the super hard mode (whatever it was called) that includes permadeath. No way am I trying that! But I am going for them all in Gravity Rush 2 and really enjoying myself. Bottom line, you gotta be having fun or what's the point?

Yea, I was really beginning to beat my head against a wall playing B2 for achievements. I would end a play session literally exhausted from all the frustration. I had to stop myself.
