More Halo Progress and Kingdom Hearts HD

Finished Halo 2 today. Boy does it seem to end abruptly before an actual climax. It's like Bungie did the story for Halo 2 and 3 together and then split it up. The true wrap up comes at the end of 3. I was surprised at the end of 2 and had to double check the story because I had in my mind the ending of 3. Anyway, it was a super fun campaign.

I finished Halo 2 only because Kingdom Hearts HD had an hour long install on my PS4. So I went to that after finishing Halo 2. I didn't know this collection included all the Kingdom Hearts games including Circle of the Moon that came out on GBA and several others. So it's the definitive collection for Kingdom Hearts fans.

I played about six hours of Kingdom Hearts before those Gummi Ship segments made me want strangle a Moogle. I was excited to do some space shooting at first, but I began to dred it with the wobbly controls and simple flying through rings (why rings? Never do rings in games. Memories of Superman on N64) and shooting at lines of ships.

The main game was really fun, though, and after a while I began thinking I would finish it and go on to play all the games in the series. Thing is, I got hung up at a few points with unclear mission objectives and driven to curse the boss fights when I had to implement the inconsistant platforming elements. I mean, the platforming is pretty good and the camera behaves much better than I expected, but judging distance in a third person 3D game is tricky and sometimes I couldn't grab that edge or jump to that precise spot readily while in a battle.

I'd say I did manage alright, though. The last boss fight I had today was in the Bizzare Room with the Trick Master. That guy was a pain but I beat him by jumping up on the table and launching myself at his vulnerable spot high off the ground (you're shrunk small in this fight). It was a little bit frustrating because I had trouble getting Sora to grab the table edge or land a jump just right on the chair and then up to the table without Trick Master interrupting me. I beat him eventually, though.

I don't know, perhaps I should've stuck with it longer. It's just, after having trouble breaking all the barrels in Olympus Coliseum and backtracking to previous areas and then having to do the shooting segments in the Gummi Ship over and over, I got kind of bored and annoyed. Throwing barrels is not as destructive as you would think. You got to hit stuff just right and one barrel sometimes doesn't take out enough stacks of barrels to beat the time limit. Again, I could've worked on it some more to get it just right, but it was becoming labor intensive.

Loved the locations from Disney worlds, though. The combat is pretty good and gets more complex as you go. At first it's too simple with no dodge or block move but I got a dodge ability later and I suppose a block move would come along eventually. I also got some spells after a while. Those helped. My AI partners, Donald Duck and Goofy were dumb as bricks. I'd give them items to help them but they'd just attack the invincible feet of the Trick Master until they got knocked down. Well, they distracted him for me, that helped. I kept thinking of Epic Mickey and how Kingdom Hearts is much better.

I kind of wish I had more patience because I'd like to see more of the locations. I guess I'm kind of stressed right now and just can't deal with it.

So I packed it up and played the opening hour or so of Halo 3 ODST, next in my chronological marathon of Halo games. I love the atmosphere of this game and the realistically detailed future city of New Mombossa. It's interesting not being a Spartan in this game. You can't jump from high places and not get hurt. The story is extra interesting to me now that I've read a whole book about this particular ODST team.

I don't know though, I was beginning to feel a bit burned out on Halo. This is the fifth game I've played in the series now. I'm committed to finishing it out though. I just might do it in smaller increments for a while.

Well, that's a day. Toodles!

I honestly don't mind rings. Hell i do rings with superman in Lego Batman and am fine with it. It's really just how badly superman 64 messed it up.

I got stuck in the OG KH game when I rented it.

Sometimes the mission objective isn't that clear. I just wandered around and talked to NPCs a couple more times and things cleared up. NPCs surprisingly say differnet things after a while in KH. I don't usually see that in games. Usually they say several things at one time and then repeat.

I've played through most of the main KH games.  In the sequels, they either make the Gummi Ship stuff optional or delete it all together.  The storyline in those games is garbage, but it is fun to tromp around Disney worlds.

Yea, I barely noticed the story. Something about shadows trying to take over or something. I didn't really care, I just wanted to roam the Disney worlds with my Final Fantasy characters and fight and find stuff.

All day today I was thinking I was too harsh on it, but I really did want to stop the ship battles even though the concept was super cool. You can customize your Gummi Ship too; although, the interface to do that was a little bit complex and I couldn't add a weapon to my ship right away.

I've been somewhat impatient with my rentals. If something really bothers me, it's back in the mail so I can get another one.

I've actually barely played the KH series. I played maybe 10 hours into the first on PS2 and that was about it. I really do want to get into it though.

I tried to trade my PS2 versions in after I got the HD collection on rental, but they wouldn't take KH 1 because it looked damaged. It probably works fine though. But now that I have a copy, I kind of want to play it some more.

I like that Kingdom Hearts eases you into the game. This might get me into the series. I have one of the KH games but on DS and it is one of those that I will try once I start rolling and knock off some games from Mount Backlog.

KH really slowly introduces you to the deeper RPG and action gameplay. By the time you are using the Gummi Ship to travel, you're getting the sense the game will get satisfyingly complex.
