Halo Marathan Progress and Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition

Today I finished Halo 4 and began Halo: Spartan Assault. Then I watched Mark play Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition for a bit.

Halo 4 looks amazing, plays flawlessly, but wasn't the most fun it could be. All the weapons come with minimal ammo and long reloads. It's so infuriating to get that great destructive alien plasma launcher, or the sticky grenade thrower, and only be able to use it a half dozen times before having to throw it to the ground, empty of ammo, and no source to reload it. I wish Halo 4 had an unlimited ammo skull like in Halo 1 and 2 in the Master Chief Collection. That was so much fun.

So I finished Halo 4 and felt the story was sappy and totally unheroic. I guess the didact was defeated, but I'm not entirely sure. He talks over the post finale sequence as if he's still around somewhere.

At one point Master Chief lies down without moving as if to suggest he was dead, or composed by the composer. I kept saying to the game, as if someone was listening, "go ahead and kill him. You want to, just do it." I get the feeling 343 wants to end the MC story and move on. Fine, you can do it without me, then.

Then I started Halo Spartan Assault, the twin-stick shooter for tablets that was ported to XBO. I don't like this game because most of the best weapons are locked behind a pay wall, or XP wall, whatever kind of points you have. Absolutely stupid. Totally saps my interest from minute one. Well, I only had a half hour with it before I stopped to watch Mark's game but I'm going to try and play it some more to at least see what the story is about.

Then Mark's install of Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition finished and I stopped to watch him play for an hour. As a preorder bonus, you can substitute the main character for Duke Nukem and new dialog by him. It brought a smile to my face to see old Dukey in a game again. All the original dialog is the same except for John St. John's new voice work in place of the main character. Duke's form appears in the game as well; although, his mouth still moves to the original voice work, which is weird; but I don't mind because I like hearing Duke in a game again.

Duke hits all the classic one-liners and ads new ones. It's funny, as always. I'm excited to play the game with the upgraded graphics tomorrow when my install finishes over night.

That's a day. You be you, be you you.

I saw an ad about putting duke where he doesn't belong. Made me want to play it.

He keeps saying that he doesn't know why he's in the game, but he definitely belongs there. Bulletstorm shares much of the Duke Nukem style.

I believe "sappy soap opera" is exactly how I once described the story of Halo 4. They tonally completely missed the mark for the series. Luckily, Halo 5 was a big improvement in story, at least in my opinion. 343 Industries is no Bungie, but at least it was a step away from Halo 4's story.

I'm excited to get to Halo 5. I fear it'll be a few months from now though.

Now that sounds cool, Duke in Bulletstorm. I keep saying it, eventually I will get around to playing through those Halo tablet games. I thought I would play a lot of it on plane rides but I ended up either falling asleep or watching movies.

I'll get back to Spartan Assault sometime soon but I really don't like the U.I. in the game. It's pretty limited in it's choices and everything costs xp or money. Gameplay is neat though.
