Bulletstorming

I played Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition today. I played the Echo Mode and then started going after achievements by starting a replay of the campaign on Normal difficulty.

Echo Mode is a challenge mode. It's all the major areas of the campaign with a score objective. Score as many points as you can and see your rank on an online leaderboard. You are awarded stars as well. More stars unlock more levels. The last one or two levels weren't areas in the campaign but kind of "what if" levels. I unlocked and then played every level.

Then there is Ultimate Echo Mode, which contains the same levels but with more specific objectives. Each level has a set of three challenges. Beat each challenge and you get stars to open up more levels. The first one was The Desert. Its first challenge is to get through the level without using guns. This means leash and kick only. That was easy. Second was to get five headshots in a row. No problem. The third one was to score 1200 points with only the most basic skillshots. You're given a rifle and shotgun. I found out by trial and error that the only basic skillshot for the rifle is a headshot. The shotgun has two: cut an enemy in half or blast their legs off. Then you have one kick kill you can do which is called Graffitti. You just have to kick an enemy to death against a wall or other substantial surface. Each one of these skillshots gives you 25 points, which I found, is not enough to get you to 1200 points in the level. There must be something else because sometimes I would get 125 points inexplicably, usually on a headshot but not every headshot. I think there's some combo you can do, maybe kick someone then headshot them? I don't know but I got frustrated with it after a dozen tries and took a break.

I looked through the achievement list and decided to start a Normal difficulty campaign playthrough while going for other achievements along the way. I got one right away for getting ten headshots before you get to the first upgrade station. That was easy. There are a few collectible achievements I can get, and there may be others related to upgrading all the weapons or getting one of every type of skillshot. I'll look farther down the list as I go, but I didn't have time to get very far in this endeavor today.

I'm eager to start my rental game, Persona 5, but I'd like to make a strike at the Bulletstorm achievement list while the skills are fresh in my hands. There's quite a lot of different button presses to do in the game, making it a good test; take a break and you may lose some technique. I'm going to need all I can get trying to beat this game on Hard or Very Hard.

That's a day. Hey hey.

I remember Bulletstorm during its initial release, but never really played it.

Persona 5 is awesome.

Bulletstorm is very good in the gameplay department. I really like the level design too. I can see why People Can Fly were chosen to do a Gears of War game. They got the basics down pat.

Can't wait to start Persona 5. Maybe this weekend.

Echo Mode sounds fun and something that some developers might force players to pay for as DLC. The inclusion of the what if levels that aren't in the game seem like it would be a huge selling point for fans of the game.

It's cool to have some challenges in areas not in the campaign. Some are clearly crafted just for the challenges. I wish I could get past the Ultimate Echo challenges. Those are darn hard.
