News:
I beat my head against a wall again in Civilization Revolution today but I got deeply into manually managing my work force. It produced some interesting results. In going for the “beat the game by 1000 AD” achievement, I managed to skip right over warrior production, research Horse Riding super-fast, and pump out horse warriors like nobody’s business. I got really close to taking over all four civs before 1000 AD. I always came up short though. That last civ was always way too prepared for me by the time my hordes of horse armies approached their cities. Once a city is loaded with archers that amount to about 20 in defense, I really need catapults to break it down and catapults are another tech I have to research. I ought to think about how it might be possible to research catapults by 1000 AD. It seems unlikely though since the achievement is designed to get you to simulate warfare before medieval times and machines like catapults. I might try it anyway.
Then I got back into Minecraft with Mark for a while. It’s super-fun to play this game co-op on Survival mode. We found a town, cooked up a lot of animals, and I got mauled by a skeleton archer. I got myself together eventually and, I think, tomorrow we might play some more and see where it goes.
Memory:
I’m remembering 2003 on Xbox. I was so excited for Goblin Commander: Unleash the Horde. Ever since Warcraft II, I always wanted something like that on console. Goblin Commander had a very similar art style and RTS gameplay. You gathered resources to build a goblin army and then take them to beat other goblin armies. You could also take direct control in battles and fight with the giant goblin Titans. I remember hitting a wall in the single player campaign and not finishing it, but I really liked most of it.

Meet most of Team Magic from Skylanders: Giants.

Ninjini, Spyro, Wrecking Ball, Pop Fizz, Double Trouble, (missing Lightcore Pop Fizz)
Ninjini is a ninja genie Giant Skylander. Before she had to fight the Arkeyans in the distant past, she was imprisoned by a jealous evil sorceress in an enchanted bottle. There she trained in her magic and ninja sword skills until she was able to break out. After that she dedicated herself to defending all Skylands from evil.
Spyro returns and has the same gameplay, just the figure has a different pose.
Wrecking Ball is also exactly the same in game as his series one counterpart, just a different looking figure.
Pop Fizz is a new core Skylander. He’s a blue gremlin alchemist who creates potions and then drinks them. In battle he throws potions and also drinks them. Some make him go berserk thereby giving him special powers. Bobcat Goldthwait voices him in the game as he does in the recent TV show.
Double Trouble returns from Spyro’s Adventure. Like the other returnees, his only difference is in the way the figure looks.
Lightcore Pop Fizz is missing from my collection. These Lightcore Skylanders light up when you put them on the portal. It’s hard to tell the difference between a Lightcore and regular figure. Lightcores usually just strike a slightly different pose. I ended up getting duplicates of some these characters because of this.
