I'm a Minecraft Cartographer

I got the achievement for teleporting 100 meters with the Ender Pearl. I just got up on a bigger mountain and then made a pilar of blocks to raise me even higher. Mark got it too just after me.

Then I started the "Map Room" achievement. You have to use a large world and make 9 maps (it's actually 8 because you get one at the start), fully explore them all and then put them into a 3x3 square of frames. I figured the best way to do this was on horseback so I tamed a horse and started running around. I soon got myself completely lost and then my horse got blown up by a Creeper. I decided to restart a new world with a new plan.

This time I decided to stay around the spawn point and gather resources until I had all 9 maps and a saddled horse ready to go. Well, this took longer than I expected. I got half the maps made and nearly led a horse to my bunker before I lost him when the leash broke. I still needed to find a saddle too. Then the night was over.

The maps in Minecraft are a bit of a pain. They reveal the terrain as you travel over it but you can't make any marks on it. You either have to follow the numeric coordinates it gives you or just remember landmarks. I prefer landmarks on the ground I can see. Sometimes I make one I can see a long way off. I just wish I could draw a "x" on the map to visually remind me of important spots. Juggling 9 maps is going to be challenging.

You juggle students. That's enough.

The horse scream is terrible too. Creepers are pure evil.

The map room achievement sounds like the perfect game concept for an explorer game, like if Lewis and Clark had a game.

Ah, there's the Lewis & Clark reference. I read these comments from most recent to least. Kind of backwards, I suppose but in case anyone is currently online, we might have a quick back and forth discussion in real time.

I've heard the PC version of Minecraft is so large that you couldn't explore it all in many human lifetimes. Only on console is it possible.
