Conan the Barber was great when he dyed my hair and gave me liberty spikes. I would recommend him.
Role-Playing Minecraft

The other day I decided I’d role-play Minecraft: XBO Edition. I decided I’d act as Conan and try to do as he would. I tried to find a skin to download but there wasn’t one for that character.
First off, I tried to fight everything I saw because Conan is all about attaining glory in battle. Additionally, I tried to simplify my approach as much as possible. Conan doesn’t want to mine, farm or enchant items like a demon-spawned wizard. He wants to blacksmith better weapons and armor. So finding iron ore was my main goal.
All along I frequently recited Conan’s prayer to Crom and his “what is best in life” speech from the 1982 film Conan: The Barbarian. Eventually I realized that the ultimate goal for Conan, and the greatest glory, was to defeat the Ender Dragon. That meant he would have to enter The Nether (also a good place for battle) and gain just enough supplies to open The End portal where the dragon lives.
I managed to build the Nether Portal without mining a single diamond. Yes, I figured out how to build it without cutting obsidian with a diamond pickaxe. I built a frame and poured in the lava and water, building it one brick at a time, kind of like the way clay molds are made. I said to myself, “Conan, by Crom, doesn’t need a fancy diamond crusted pickaxe; he uses his bare hands and a few buckets.”.
That being done, the next task was fighting Endermen for Ender Pearls to open The End Portal. I set up observation towers all around my village to look out for them at night. This worked great! I went on patrol, climbed a tower, looked around for a few minutes and then moved to the next one. I did that all night. I bagged 4 Ender Pearls in something like half an hour. I had to stop at hour 4 ½ being still short 8 Ender Pearls to activate the End Portal. I think if I had started this tower patrol plan earlier in the session, I would have been ready at hour 4 to enter the dragon’s realm.
I’m excited to try and finish this “Conan” themed Minecraft run in less than 6 hours total and then maybe try again going for 4 hours. I may have to call my character Quicksilver or something for that playthrough.
Mark seemed to be interested in this too, so we may do a co-op run and try and do it even faster. I wonder what dynamic duo would fit that role-play?
