1943 is one of my favorite shooters, even to this day.
Minecraft, Halo 5 and Capcom’s 1943

I couldn’t resist going after several more achievements in Minecraft today, but I managed to tear myself away long enough to finish Halo 5, play a few rounds of Capcom's arcade game 1943, and start the install for Halo Wars 2.
In Minecraft, I went after the Frost Walker achievement. I tried to collect resources towards building the enchantment table but ended up, like many times before, dying in the Nether. Then I tried to find slimeballs for a leash to capture a llama but, strangely, couldn’t find the slimes in the nearby marsh. I got so frustrated, I decided to take a different approach to the game. No longer would I seek the enchantment table and all that entails. I would seek out places where I could pick up random enchanted books and hope that one of them had the Frost Walker skill: villagers sell them, they’re in pyramids, and they can be found in the Stronghold. I figured I might be able to enchant a lot of items without ever going to the Nether. It was kind of freeing to realize this, and I enjoyed a long jaunt exploring a new world just collecting anything I could find mostly on the surface. Along the way, I discovered a Woodland Mansion and got the achievement for beating an Evoker. Then I found a leash and caught a llama. I figured out how to tame it and put a pack on it. Then I led it around (you can ride it but not direct it) across the savana. I had hoped to find a village where I could pen it up and then go looking for more, but I didn’t find one for so long, I kind of gave up.
That got me to pull myself away from Minecraft and return to Halo 5. Turns out, I was less than a half hour from the end of the game. What a lackluster ending! I barely understood it, really, because I had taken a month break. It seemed pretty weak though, leaving a lot of questions and no strong impact on me.
Then I tried some multiplayer. I played some Warzone with 24 people and then some Firefight with 8 people. It was ok. I grabbed an achievement for something good. I guess I was doing ok. I wasn’t bottom of the list after any match, anyway. I found it kind of boring actually. These maps are all circular in nature; meaning, they are just elaborate arenas. You end up circling around a lot, and I like to feel I’m going somewhere, even in multiplayer.
So I started to reinstall Halo Wars 2, and while I waited (it didn’t finish), I played some 1943 on the Capcom Classics Collection and beat my old high score. No achievement dropped for that, though.
Then Mark and I played some Minecraft in creative mode and we ran amok: we destroyed villages, unleashed the Wither on all gentle and vicious creatures, burned the Woodland Mansion to the ground with all inside it, and entered The End where we found out how to get to the End City. There’s an achievement to get being in there, but you have to do it on Survival Mode which is very time consuming. It was fun to explore it for the first time, though. Oh yea, and we killed the dragon. It was kind of easy when you are basically an invincible god. Poor dragon.
That’s about it. I’m getting that Crash Bandicoot collection for PS4 soon on rental but not soon enough. I’ll be trying to beat Halo Wars 2 tomorrow. Also, I just made up my playlist of games relevant to this year, and it’s a long one. I’ve got some work to do.
